I am unsure what distinction the linked page is trying to draw between payment for goods/services and debt. The first paragraph seems to unequivocally state that businesses do not need to accept cash (from a Federal law perspective anyway).

  There is no federal statute mandating that a private business, a person, or an 
  organization must accept currency or coins as payment for goods or services. 
  Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether to accept 
  cash unless there is a state law that says otherwise.

What if HackerNews instances were easily deployable? Say on par with launching a new blog through WordPress or similar. Do you think that that would by and large provide the tools and interfaces to satisfy what you are looking for?

Is there a properly colorized version of this PDF floating around somewhere? In particular, I'm wondering about this line that lies above a grayscale image:

Edit: I should add that I do see some of the documents reproduced and referenced from elsewhere in the article (e.g. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/5694620-Exhibit-OO-R...), however I didn't see any way to access the full collection.

I would guess it depends on the specific circumstance as well as the insurer. With that said, I'm not the GP (but am based in the US), but in our case the hospital arranged for a visiting nurse to do a check in the next day and it was covered by our insurance.

I'm not familiar with "Blockchain Research Institute", so I'm not sure if your comment is critical of them as an organization or not. I am also wary of the blockchain-is-magic hype train, so I generally agree with your assessment that we aren't prepared to vote online.

While I wasn't surprised by the overall lack of technical details given the medium/audience, I did find it odd that the question of privacy was essentially ignored. Do they have a solution in mind that allows me to validate that my vote is in the ledger without the vote being traceable back to me?

Are you distinguishing the court from the police here? The article states:

"Matthew Lawson, prosecuting, said police were following a "lengthy procedure" to get the information from Facebook itself."

I suspect you are overthinking it, or at least should acknowledge that one needs to take the idea and walk a long, long way!

But, with that said, this work is dependent on having a "source" that the user is using as an input for pose detection. The actual accomplishment must still be performed and recorded, though I suppose this opens the door to the dance equivalent of "lip syncing" even beyond what might be done today with a body double.

On the topic of good practices for FPGA design, does anyone have a recommendation for an online course that covers this or similar material?

I'm not the GP, but for what it's worth I do remap capslock to esc. I mostly use a Kinesis Advantage keyboard where the escape key is one of the chiclet rubber keys, so using vim (at all) really begs for either a remapped esc or brain-retraining to use ctrl-[.

I'm not sure if it's a better or worse choice to remap capslock to ctrl - but it's certainly viable. The old Sun keyboards used to have that layout...

I think the point is that there is same-year tax liability on the $5M value, but there is no guarantee on getting the $5M payout that same year (or ever, for that matter). When you exercise your options, you now hold shares in a private company, which may restrict your ability to realize the payout in various ways.

This course is taught by Andrew Ng. Professor Ng is not only one of the founders of Coursera, but is also a prof at Stanford and Chief Scientist at Baidu. Machine Learning (and Deep Learning in particular) is his specialty, so he is a pretty good resource on the topic :)

Your observation is spot-on and I agree that it's important not to misread this data set, but I think it still has some valuable uses. While I would rather see more detail, I am interested to see how different industries impact overall employment in the economy even if I can't bucket all the individual jobs under one heading.

With that said, given that a lot of companies contract out for non-core work (e.g. janitorial, kitchen/food-preparation in cafeterias, etc), I wonder how that is handled in this dataset? In particular, what location would be associated with a given contract worker. Would it be their employer's address or the address where they provide services?

I am confused as well. With that said, there is a comment from 'dragonwriter' further up in the thread that I think touches on this:

"In a tax system with progressive marginal rates on annual income, treating income resulting from action over multiple years as earned in the year realized results in a artificial increase in the tax burden on those with that kind of income pattern. So, there's a sense in which treating capital gains earned over multiple years differently than capital gains earned over a single year or less (the latter taxed as general income), given the progressive nature of the tax system."

Given the pain that would be associated with rolling your own, why not make the case that a new method be added to the String interface that provides the old behavior? Legacy applications still need to change, but it would be a relatively straight-forward mechanical replacment.

My team has been rolling our own conda packages for (frequent) internal software releases to local servers and have been pretty happy overall pulling down code from a locally managed conda package repo.

With that said, Conda is not a perfect solution. One thing that can be frustrating is that a package can include compiled code (shared objects/dylibs) that may be incompatible with your system. Unfortunately, while you can indicate dependencies on other conda packages, python versions, etc there isn't currently a convenient way to indicate things like GLIBC dependencies.

From the standpoint of at least one "user", I would have gotten a lot more value out of the animation if I could control it (e.g. with a slider). The pulsing back and forth makes it more difficult for me to pinpoint something of interest (e.g. a less expensive city like Detroit) and then track it.
