I have a need to integrate my iOS development with TFS repository. The dev ops that only use Windows boxes need to be able to build and deploy iOS code to TestFlight and App store mainly accessing remotely a Mac Mini server.<p>My solution was to add some script steps to the scheme and a build script to each project that can be executed from a TFS task accessing the Mac Mini via ssh. I describe my solution in more detail on the url above. I'm wondering to hear other solutions to similar problems and suggestions to improve my solution. Thanks

I'm really sorry for your loss. I experienced something similar when I lost my son 5 years ago. It can be very dark the place you are right now, but believe me, it will get better. I went back to work after 2 weeks and it was extremely hard. I couldn't do anything and I would go the the restroom to cry, because people around me were feeling uncomfortable with my grief. I found an online support group that really helped me. I was so depressed that I can't even leave the house and meet other people, so the online group was a good starting point. After two weeks of terrible work, my employer agreed with me that I couldn't go on and I took a leave for health reasons. At my job I had disability insurance and profound depression qualifies as disability. You should go see a psychiatrist to have the depression diagnosis in your records and to try some medication. If you are feeling too bad, please, check yourself at a hospital. In my case it took me over a year in disability to recover from my son's loss.

Here are some links for depression support in NZ: www.depression.org.nz http://www.mentalhealth.org.nz/page/40-getting-help http://www.depressionsupportnetwork.org.nz/

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, seek help.

I'm not sure I understood your question. Push notifications have to be originated outside the device. If you want an app running on your device and sending notifications to the device itself, it will be just a regular local notification. If you want to receive notifications from events that will originated outside the device, like the case you mentioned, website downtime alert), some application running running outside the device can use a service like Urban Airship, Amazon AWS, Parse.com and some others. These providers have an API that your app, running on a server somewhere, can use to send push notifications to your iOS device. You would need an app on your device the subscribes to these messages and the app could be launched by the remote notification when the user taps on it. If you are using one of these push notification service providers, your iOS app would have to be linked with their SDK. In iOS, each app that can receive remote push notifications is a topic and the originator of the push notification has to address the notification to a topic/device combination.

This page has a list of several push notification providers: http://iphonedevsdk.com/forum/promotion-techniques/115219-my...

And several of them have tutorials explaining how to use thier service.

I find really annoying receiving all these uninvited emails from clueless recruiters that pai linkedIn to access my profile.

Learning that other companies are in the business of reaching me through information that LinkedIn makes available for free is even more annoying.

Since a good while I've been considering to shut down my account with them. Maybe it is time to do it now.

I don't think so. Because I might be good at doing the task, but not as good as hiring and managing someone else doing the task and if the quality of the job done by a third party is questionable, you won't be able to raise your price or even selling to the same customer anymore. I don't think it is a black and white decision. Instead I decide to hire someone to do the tasks I can't do, either because of lack of skills or lack of time/resources.

I was discussing something similar with my brother past week. He works with real time data acquisition and analysis of large streams of data and he has a hard time finding hardware and software appropriate for his needs. He has to network with other people in his industry a lot, also with vendors in conferences and fairs. I though that is is a shame that there is no forum with people from other industries that deal with similar problems that they could share ideas, cooperate and evolve together. Very big companies have enough funds to invest in research centers and on basic research at the academic environment, but for the smaller companies and individuals it is very hard.

I liked the post because it shows the other side of a couple living with depression. I suffer from chronic depression and it is not easy to depend on medication every day with no prospect of "cure". The hardest part is dealing with the stigma associated with it, with people insisting that you are not doing the right thing and finding a way to get over it and free your self from medication.

I know that the "chemical imbalance" explanation is a poor excuse for "we don't know exactly how it works". But there are so many progresses done in our quality of living that were done because someone had a hunch and some practical, reproducible results showing that it worked. Think about the practice of washing hands when going from one patient to another in a hospital? When it was suggested, people couldn't see a connection with dirty hands and spreading diseases.

I lost a son that suffered from a mood disorder to suicide. It is heartbreaking and it happened when he was apparently getting over the hump of his darkest moments... I have other two children that also struggled with depression and what I found that worked the best for us so far is communication. Being opened about our struggles, talk therapy in conjunction with medication.

I use to be concerned about that when I was at your age, but now, after having to face major tragedies in my life I learned that the poet was right when he said that "All is worthwhile if the soul is not small." (Fernando Pessoa). I never get tired of learning, even if what is shown as new smells like dejá-vu. Learning is something that rewards you not only when you achieve the goal, but in the process of achieving it. I tried the management path and I was good at it, but I really enjoy programming better, so I get programming gigs as much as possible. One thing in my favor is that I don't have any aspirations of being rich, stability and alike. This open my choices of jobs.

I'm sorry for your loss. I lost my son to suicide in 2009. He was brilliant, very sociable, very mature and he too struggled with mental illness. Today I know a lot more about the subject and I'm trying to help preventing more suicides from happening and mental health from being poorly diagnosed and treated. Right now I'm working on a project to develop apps for smart devices that can help people at risk of suicide. If anyone wants to help, please, contact me.

Sad times when we have to choose between being censored or lacking privacy. Where did that talk of the global village take us?

I find it puzzling that the author always has to work with "arbitrary deadlines". Deadlines are established according to business needs and resource availability. They shouldn't be arbitrary. If they seem arbitrary to the team, maybe this is not the right team for the project.

My ASPIE son is quite familiar with panic attacks and I got use to dealing with him when he has them. After I lost my other son to suicide I had a very complicated grief, felt into profound depression and had panic attacks in the beginning. There are medications you can take to control your panic attacks. I tried some and found one that worked for me until I didn't have them anymore. My son always refused to take any kind of medication, so we had to use some behavioral training to help him identify what triggers a panic attack, when it is starting and how he can mitigate them, shortening its duration and avoiding worse consequences. Because of him being aspie, I have his support network that is made of very few people, informed about panic attacks and how to deal with him when he is having one. If I was you, I would look for a good psychiatrist that can help you pinpoint the origin of your panic attacks, if they are related to another condition (depression, for example) and look for options to treat the condition. Also, seek your support network, family, friends, spouse, that can help you.

I published 4 books. First I used chapbooks.com, which no longer exists. After that I tried lulu.com and the problem was the distribution. They don't have a good deal to distribution worldwide and part of my audience was in other countries other than US. I then switched to using createspace from Amazon. The process was a lot easier and smoother with Amazon and the distribution is better there too. I started with the print on demand version and it was very easy to make the ebook version. The books are available on Amazon site and can be sold worldwide.

I think domain knowledge is important, but sometimes it can be a trap that hinders inovation. As Pierre Bayard put very nicely in "How to talk about books you haven't read", when we don't have domain knowledge we open ourselves to questions that we wouldn't make otherwise.
