The point is development in Belltown has been highly restricted for decades, preventing dense, multi-purpose buildings from being built in that neighborhood.

Even the newer buildings being built right on Denny and Queen Anne Ave N in Belltown are entirely the creation of zoning, as they are height capped and forced to subsidize parking (which rents for $0.XX per sqft a month) over usable space that rents for dollars a square foot. The terribly restrictive zoning hasn't helped, if we got rid of the height caps and parking minimums that kneecap growth, we would see many more apartments and condos being built. Why should a 1 bedroom apartment be over a grand in Ballard or Fremont?

LOL, the private schools here are anti-vaxxer havens, when you hear about kids dying of whooping cough or similar in this state, it nearly always is at a private school. Also, its a non-union gig that pays a few grand less than SPS or the other public school districts. What your paying for with private schools in the region is to be in an upper crust social circle.

The Archdiocese of the Seattle Catholic Church needs to crack down on that, as they run the majority of the private schools in the city.

Patently false, I've been to a few camera infested shitholes like the one on 15th and Market in Ballard where they tried to pull this crap on me (and gave up), but outside of that I have yet to run into it. Are public schools in Brooklyn that bad? I know they're very segregated[1], but the concept of a private school being of better quality than a public school is horrendous. In Seattle that isn't the case, but that is mainly due to the $10k pay gulf between private and public school teachers, nevermind the benefits differences and religious/of moral character requirements of most private schools. The major reason to go is if you want to be in the clique, outside of that its a slightly worse education for a few grand to a few tens of grand a year.

Portland meanwhile has notably worse public schools, often making it appear that you should pay for private schooling. That being said, quality is still lacking in private schools there, I saw many students left behind that would have learned how to read months earlier in Seattle.

Why should a toolkit be illegal, and why should you not carry your tools with you? Picking a lock is usually the slowest way in, if you are trying to increase security, paying a premium for a better lock while retaining windows and unreinforced walls is a poor decision.

The cost and wiring to power eink displays is too much, due to the USD being fairly stable, prices don't change daily/hourly, which would help eink signage for shelving make sense.

Ok, how do I install it on an OrangePi PC Plus? What about on a Roseapple Pi or CubieBoard6? Wait, I can't, there is no eMMC support for the OrangePi H3 boards in FreeBSD, and S500 based boards literally have no BSD support at all. It goes on like this for most of the boards out there, unless you stick to a BeagleBoneBlack or are willing to live with a gimped system.

As far as I can discern, they literally do not give a crap and do the bare minimum to get a half working Linux BSP so they can run an ancient version of Android. Then it gets used for your security camera, and that is why you have 20 shitty IP cams running kernel 2.6 calling home to Hunan Province.

That BSP will rarely be released to the public, much less mainlined, and it is sure to be mixing proprietary code with GPL'ed code. *BSD doesn't even factor into the equation, since GPL compliance doesn't matter to Allwinner or Rockchip.

What Point of Sale systems have you seen running BSD? In the US, all the major retailers are either on SLES through IBM/Toshiba, or your Walmart and are on your own homerolled Linux box as a POS.

Outside of that, its all Windows for the smaller chains, Truno and similar will not talk to them, so they get to deal with NCR who sells them a meh system based on whatever the last supported version of Windows is. Even smaller and you get into PCAmerica (Windows) or Clover (Android/Linux).

On the embedded front ($X to $XX) BSD supports fewer platforms than Windows for IoT, you can't even boot it on your average ARM board or MIPS router. Only in high end consoles ($XXX) has Sony & Nintendo chosen to use BSD, which requires a substantial amount of work, but there is significant perceived value by making locked down "consoles" that can only run their signed software.

If you look at that space, the OrangePi Zero and others all run Linux, not *BSD. Nintendo & Sony have both chosen to go and build on BSD for their high end consoles so they can have tight control and give nothing back, but the NES Classic runs Linux as porting BSD doesn't make sense.

That is actually fairly common. Gun control can be done in a nuanced way, and we can have more guns with few instances of gun violence esque Switzerland if we train our populace to properly secure and disarm their guns when not being actively used.

Comparatively, people like my great grandfather thought it was fine to leave a dozen or more loaded guns of varying types all throughout the house. Not great when a shotgun falls out from behind the stove and nearly gets ya.

We can convert the "unwinnable" "red" states if we only dare put in the effort to beat the streets and call people, have one on one interaction and talk about issues that matter. Jobs, healthcare, workers rights, when you connect to people, even if you disagree with a person about "divisive" issues, they can often feel you are out there fighting for a better future for them and their family.
