Yup, spot instances would surely fit. And yes EC2 is awesome too. No point in changing the thread to a different discussion altogether. Even if Rackspace is #2, this is not what was expected of it, right? Changing the provider to EC2 is an option that everyone has but that has enormous overhead too!

That is what I was expecting from HN community. It would be really sad to see this go unnoticed.

Well, I wont go so far calling Rackspace a 'bad' company as such, afterall they have an excellent customer support - but there are somethings which should never be overlooked or , for that matter, never be done when you have such a huge customer base. Rackspace is just taking a wrong turn here!

There are countless differences between EC2 & Rackspace for example CPU - rackspace's performance is way better than EC2. You should benchmark your scripts on both & then compare.

- I stroll around, walk a mile or two - have some coffee there at some store - look at the people there and think - 'what is running on their mind? Not a buggy code,I guess' - and then come back, stare at the screen and voila! there it is! An insignificant pesky ';' was missing!

So, yes, walk away from your computer. What you and your computer have is a relationship and you need to spend some time apart to realize what you're missing in there.And to get it to work. ;)

Excellent article. Its so true - these days people concentrate on increasing the slide numbers to make it appear as if there is a lot of content in it.No wonder, people hate most of the presentations these days.

'Words' and 'Expressions' along with a meaningful message are the best ways to communicate yourself across to a room full of people. Some visual material is as much important but only 'useful' material.

Rather than wasting your time on thinking 'how to fill N number of slides', it will be a lot more useful if we know our material, practice our material and choose our words carefully. Practice how to engage audience, than trying to make awesome visuals to enchant them with your slide making skills.

Why 'three slide' rule?

Scaling up/down might be a bit of problem though. I'm not sure if this logic fits here:

You're shrinking down the tweets of the people who are more frequent,and vice-versa.The first time I used Shuu.sh I didn't notice much(my bad), but after a couple of time turning it on and off, I noticed what is happening.

Will it not make more sense to limit the 'number' of tweets shown based upon the frequency of the tweeter? And the number being decided based upon number or retweets of that tweet or something? Giving user an option of how many tweets from a person of specific frequency would he like to see or determining it on the basis of how many he is following and how many are following those who are being followed by this user.

For some unknown reason, I've been away from github for a while now. My presence there is unknow. I create new stuff which will be useful for people like me. But then again, I think how many will be there like me. I don't know how much useful my code will be for others, I dont know if it will ever be useful for others.

But there is a sense of giving back to the community that makes me feel bad everyday whenever I get to know new things from it, just because my contribution might not be significant enough.

Its really pretty unbelievable that life takes such turns.These happen every once in a while. Steve Jobs says - you cant connect the dots looking forward,it is only possible looking backwards.What if a person just believed in his destiny and went off with only one belief that dots are going to connect for sure someday, and then they don't? Many must have tried to connect the dots but were unsuccessful. For all the entrepreneurs in the world,I think,it all boils down to this: 'Is it worth it, if the dots don't connect? Will they not complain that they should've taken the safe route?'. If the answer for both the questions are 'yes' for once,never think again - its only going to waste valuable time.

@bittermang : true, going back is painful and networks & cable operators are probably aware of this. But, as wsj puts it - investors of netflix are scared that its expenditure on the content deals will overtake their revenue and with netflix threatening the existence of so many network companies, netflix soon has to create its own content OR devise an extraordinary plan to sustain the network grudges against it.

It will be interesting to see individual networks starting up their own streaming services.

Starting to program at the age of 6 is nice and good(if that is out of curiosity), but for me - I'd say - wait for sometime,do the things that you are supposed to do at that age, and when the time comes to be different, you'll know and follow it then. There is no point in bragging about when a person started to code.He might miss out on a lot of things as a child which might make him a different person and constrict his 'social' network. As a child spending more time in the programming world is not desirable, after all we all are programming towards making things work like humans would work, and we are missing out on the 'being human' part by programming in the time in which we are still growing as a human?

The market will be nonexistent is a conclusion overdrawn.Taking the statistical data and interpolating it might give us figures but it is really hard to believe that people's interest in saving money will be non-existent in four years.

What might happen ( what is happening presently) is there will be many more competitors in this market and it is very much unlikely that one competitor will be consistently able to secure all the good deals in the market.This might lead to market in which companies will thrive to get good deals with no significantly big success. In this very scenario, any company which will be able to successfully integrate the great deals from all the websites like groupon,living social etc can be very much successful without many efforts needed to be put in.
