Want to work with hundreds of terabytes of realtime data using advanced JVM Languages like Clojure and Scala, dig into that data with Hadoop, and invent cutting edge products to handle it all?

Triggit, a San Francisco ad:technology startup is hiring.

Ping us @ engjobs@triggit.com.

If you're obsessed with distributed systems for processing big data and are intimately familiar with Java and Hadoop, you're going to have a lot of fun. At Triggit, we pride ourselves on our merit-based, ownership culture. You get to run your projects, not be run.

What You'll Do All Day: • Design and Deploy Triggit’s data tools including A/B testing, forecasting, etc. • Collaborate with multiple teams to implement requests into the Hadoop Cluster • Build and Optimize dozens of reports and create data visualization and storage tools around them • Grow and Scale the Hadoop Analytics Platform

Additional Openings: - BackEnd Engineer (C/C++ on Linux) - Platform Engineer (Ruby on Rails) - Sr. Dev Ops

Base pay for engineers starts in the six figures, you get to build your own battle station, and every engineer gets an office - with a door. Positions are full time and based in our SOMA, San Francisco, CA office.

Some of the most complex projects are also the least sexy.

At Triggit we are building technology around how to buy digital media. What does this mean? It means a start-up with less then 20 people evaluates over 12 billion ad impressions, across hundreds of millions of user records, every day. Since we bid and buy these ads in in Real Time we get less then 100 milliseconds to leverage the data provided by the sellers (people like google), the data provided by our clients (advertisers), internal data, and 3rd party data to dynamically evaluate and bid on inventory. We look at about 150,000 queries per second with hundreds of different bidders. Because of latency restraints and load balancing issues we can't work in the cloud, which means we must coordinate this entire effort across four data centers on three continents.

We legitimately deal with big data - so much data that its not worth storing the vast majority of it. Hadoop sort of keeps up, Hbase breaks regularly and the guys at MapR are up to some pretty cool stuff.

Who said an online advertising start-up couldn't be interesting :) Check it out at triggit.com.

If you want an H1-B, you need to apply to start work on October 1. We didn't even put in an application for our H1-B candidate until September and he received his H1-B in early October. Clearly just another demonstration of the USAs primitive immigration policy!

You also have to be very careful coming to San Francisco to look for a job and then applying for an H1-B ...theoretically that is against 'the rules' so make sure both you and your future employer are comfortable with the situation.

I'd say try again next summer, I'd bet you find success. The $5K for an H1-B is nothing for a great dev!

:) Same post as last month for Triggit! Still looking for great engineers.

I think its a bit lower then that if you want to work at a start-up. We're paying Mid-Senior level from $120-150 (Full Stack). I vet hundreds of resumes a month, and we're pretty average / ahead of the game.

My kid brother just graduated CS from Berkeley and got offers ranging from 70-85, plus equity, benefits etc. Still high, but not quite $110k...

Base pay for engineers starts in the six figures, you get to build your own battle station, and every engineer gets an office – with a door. The market in San Francisco (we still have to compete with the Google/Facebook etc) demands that start-ups pay market rate. Everyone on engineering team here at Triggit makes at least six figures. VC funded companies generally build a lot of budget around hiring, and paying, top engineering talent.

Depending the type of job you are looking for, and the size of the company, I'd actually encourage you not to use a recruiter. Although we use them, we don't look at resumes from recruiters nearly as closely as direct applicants - especially if you do a little bit of legwork and see if you can't find an advocate within the company.

Just be direct with a company, tell them what you need to make, and they can pretty quickly tell you yes or no. I'd say target start-ups with funding, or that are profitable, and you'll find a nice salary waiting for you.

Good luck!

Where are you sending your resume? As a VC funded start-up in San Francisco we see lots of resumes, just not lots of great ones. And so we pay. $140k base for most positions. And we're open to telecommuting and relo. Its just even harder to find remote engineers then local ones. If your interested, ping me ;)
