Unfortunately the official History channel website always redirects you to the Latin American version, preventing people with a Latin American IP address to access any US content.

I've used Weylus [0]. It works over LAN, lets you control the mouse from your tablet. Sometimes it's laggy, but you can configure the resolution so it's not using too much bandwidth. I'm not sure if it's stable at all. Haven't used it on a regular basis.

I wonder if there is an equivalent technology or 'activity' from the 80s as addictive and individual as social media.

As a GenZ human myself, I can't really imagine that much of a life without the Internet. In recent months, I've tried to adopt a less-internet lifestyle, such as reading, doing exercise, etcetera. But I still look back and think: if I hadn't had so much time to use a computer and the internet, I never would have discovered my passion (programming). I also get into a vicious cycle when learning new things: I don't commit to anything. (just Linux afaik) There's just so many technologies, stacks coming out, plenty of things, endless things to learn about that I never really wrap my head around what to really learn and dedicate to. But I guess that's more of a general opinion on learning things, not necessarily exclusive of recent technology.

could you explain a little more about the lawsuit ? I don't understand why they'd have to stop using their recommendation system.

I'm using an iPhone 6S, I changed the battery after around three years. The only issue is it gets pretty hot sometimes, still not sure what it is but it's manageable.

As another commenter has said, I'd recommend Processing[0], a java-based language with a graphics library. One of the best ways to get into text-based programming languages.

The tutorials I would recommend are from the Coding Train youtube channel.

You can make tons of games and animations with this, I mostly used it for 2d games.

I have only tried it on high school 10th graders, it's worked pretty good for getting them into object oriented programmming.

I'm not a bot. I may just have been tired when writing this comment and not at all objective. I didn't mean that budget in public schools is an issue. What I meant to say is that the budget in public schools is not the cause of teachers saying that wikipedia is bad, it's more like a general mindset that people have.

There definitely isn't a solution in my comment. I certainly just critiqued. I did not mean that adblockers don't exist but that the solutions that my teachers seem to give me are also bad.

I didn't mean to make it annoying. I used to put it right besides the last letter but I've found that the French language uses an extra space. I think it looks better. I see you have a different opinion. I did not mean to be overly annoying with it.

I disagree. The private high school were I attended also said this about wikipedia. Yet it recommended using Google search and Google scholar for getting the primary sources.

But you know what I've found ? It's hard to read primary sources. I tried reading up on e.g. the cell. The parts of a cell. But I've barely found any primary sources for it. Everything is in ad-filled webpages or cool academic webpages with images but no references!

Also, I think recommending Google search is bad because it tries to guess what you're searching for based on the profile they have about you! That's just so bad for getting objective information.

That would be a very clever prank. Maybe it even has an antenna to connect to cellular or satellite-internet so that the person that control it.

Nice project, although I'd definitely not use it. The website seems too bloated and as others have said uses too much ram.

I somewhat am. I originally wrote this something to look for something that probably isn't on HN. Yes, it is partly the meaning of life. But as I've struggled thru my mid-teens life crisis I never really consider to be 'out' of it. I still constantly struggle to get meaning out of anything. Even school work, assignments, etc. I think to some degree, thinking is driving me nuts. But I didn't mean to say that I did not derive any value from it (as another comment said near here) but that I really did not understand if this was intellectually interesting. It was a nice story, it did get a good development which I enjoyed but I feel like this is just as entertainment, right?

I don't know what to say - yet.

I felt this human's story. Touching indeed. But I feel like this was something that HN wouldn't have liked. This was a nice essay but I'm still unsure how it got to the front page. (( Please comment, why did you upvote ? ))

I honestly expected some kind of connection with the title and the story. But there really wasn't. Okay, yeah they talked about Cobain's death, life but did it actually have anything to do with his dad ?

On another note, I feel the writer. Not having a purpose, that's how I feel right now. One could say that I became slightly HN-popular. Even got several internship offers and I worked for two and a half months. But I barely felt like any of the work I was doing actually served a purpose.

I feel lost, this was a good perspective on life stories. But is this just entertainment or do I get any value from it ? Is this just like Netflix and Prime movies and shows that are so far from my own reality that I'm absorbed into it and I feel like I become a part of it and I aspire to some of their values.

I also like writing, I feel like software engineering programming as a job isn't for me.

Now that I think about it I think I did not try restarting the iPhone altogether.
