We're using LCP from EDRLab which is an open standard. Other vendors are starting to adopt it and I think Kobo intend to this year too. Basically the LCPL files you download can be opened on any compatible LCP reader.

I agree, it's one of my best value subscriptions. It's especially good if you host a lot of domains, you can link 100 custom domains to a single Fastmail account.
I use a Boox and really like it, but it's definitely not the same price point as a kindle. It has a stylus but I basically use it exclusively for reading.

I'm building a platform for people in my rare fruit meetup group exchange scions. I've never built a react native app, but with the help of Claude it seems possible to build for the web and iOS/Android apps with minimal experience. Hoping to make it really useful for our group before sharing it with others.

Ebooks.com has a filter for DRM free ebooks, unfortunately it's only a small subset of publishers that allow it currently

We're a dotnet shop and we're looking to rewrite our iOS and Android apps in a cross platform framework. On paper MAUI seems like the perfect fit but reading through the discussion and issues in GitHub it's nearly guaranteed this will go the way of all MS's UI products. The number of unresolved issues for fairly basic functionality and the number of developers voicing their PTSD from MAUI related development has made us steer clear.
I found it a very easy and engaging read, even though my perspective of Musk has changed over time. My one criticism is that it seems a bit premature, I feel like the most interesting part of the story is yet to come, he'll either achieve more of his goals or will self immolate.
We use Bookstack to organise most info - it's easy to setup in docker and easy to find and link articles
If you host on something like Netlify, it's pretty easy to add it as a netlify form.

Yes, unfortunately this is the case (I work for ebooks.com). Most publishers require us to use DRM and Adobe DRM really sucks, but there isn't other options out there and we don't have the resources to make something better.
We focus quite a bit of effort on educating publishers about moving to DRM-Free as it makes everyone's lives easier and from what we've seen increases publisher sales numbers.

I went for dark castle first thing as well. Says you need to change the display to 2 colours for it to work, I couldn't figure out how to do it.
My two favourite books I read this year were both non-fiction:
* Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage - If you enjoy books about persistence in the face of adversity, this has it in spades. When I was in my 20's I saw the movie "Touching the Void" and remember being in total awe at a human's ability to persevere in seemingly impossible situations. Shackleton and his crew bring this power of determination to another level.
* On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft - Reading this gave me another level of respect for Stephen King. He also pointed me towards another excellent book "Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life".
I've used Kagi as my primary search engine since they went live and I've been extremely pleased so far. Funnily enough, I only use !g now when I want to get Google Shopping results (for price comparison) or look at product reviews.

We keep trying to push publishers to allow us to sell their ebooks DRM-free, it really is a win-win. Less customer support for us, more sales for them, no vendor lock-in for the customer. We offer completely DRM-free or watermarked content: https://www.ebooks.com/drm-free/. I wish every publisher would embrace it.
