Not to suggest diagnosis on the internet to people I haven't met, but for me chronic insomnia was actually narcolepsy. Ironic given that it's disease known for excess sleep, but the actual core issue is broken sleep structure. I had actually been supplementing with creatine for the past 6 months or so and recently gave it up. If it was having any effect it was marginal at best. The only thing that works is pharmaceuticals.

And yet I still see MAHA defenders even on HN.
Like much new technology, it evades regulations. Hyperscalers are getting crushed by popular backlash and resource constraints. And like typically nerds they'd rather dream up a massively overengineered solution rather than face their responsibility as human beings.
They've still managed to capture a slice of government business because they have explicitly aligned themselves with one of the two major American political parties.
It's funny you should say that because I had to stop rowing due to repetitive strain on my ankle.
On twitter yesterday, someone posted a question about SpaceX/xAI making a poor financial decision and Musk answered saying SpaceX will be worth more than the rest of the Earth. His megalomania is really running wild so I would not put much stock in this. They are asking the FCC for permission to launch 100k satellites which puts this very much in the "aspirational" category. They neither have plans nor approval to do it. This is a combination of ego and signalling to SPCX investors because it's down nearly 10% from IPO.

It's potentially a great strategy. They can't keep up with Antropic and OpenAI in pure horsepower, but there's just tons of applications for which you don't need that much power and it's better to optimize for speed and energy.
I think "imposed" is a pretty fair word. LLMs already affect everyone's lives whether you use them or not and their footprint is still growing. It's like I don't have to buy a car, but cars are absolutely imposed on everyone anyway.
Prime age is meant to filter college kids and retirees which makes sense but it is likely hiding the minor crisis in hiring for college grads. But I agree it's not disastrous just a yellow flag. The 20 year bull market has minted a lot of millionaires amongst the upper middle class and a lot of them are retiring early.
Every system ever has been a patchwork. Dodd-Frank and it's orderly liquidation rules are a genuine benefit. We had a commercial bank collapse a few years ago and there was no contagion.
Crypto has utterly failed as a currency. In that regard it's been dead for over a decade. If btc or eth were currency they'd be considered dead by deflationary spiral which is more or less what every economist predicted from the start. Some people got rich by investing but getting rich off of currency speculation is generally awful for people who rely on that currency to live. Crypto has been a success the same way The Room was a successful movie.
Honestly as much as people complain the US Federal Reserve really just proved their enormous value and thoroughly vindicated fiat currency. The financial crisis of 2007-8 should have been a new Depression and it wasn't. Instead we've seen uninterrupted growth for close to 20 years. Markets have really internalized that the US economy is indestructible and the Fed will always protect us from disaster. Will it last forever? Of course not. But like Keynes said, "in the long run, we're all dead".
I got a Steam Deck for my son. Docking it to an external monitor with mouse and keyboard in desktop mode is just running a nice desktop Linux with KDE Plasma by default. I showed him the basics and it's perfectly usable for his school needs. And he can still put it in his bag and play Skyrim on a train ride.
Surely there's tons of evidence and we don't need to wait for a government assessment that has been teased for over ten years.
This has been litigated and investigated over and over and there's never been a shred of usable evidence. Fox and others were sued and lost unable to prove anything. Trump ran a voter fraud commission in 2016 and they just gave up with no findings. They have nothing. They have all the resources in the world to bring to bear and they can't prove a single thing.
We're probably still decades away from that kind of robot. And I firmly believe the domestic robot revolution will not involve any humanoids. It'll be a few purpose-built machines that resemble nothing organic.
Except businesses tend be focused on core competencies and not sprawling in a lot of unrelated directions.
AR has yet to produce any value for anybody. Google failed, Apple failed, Meta basically built a creeper spy cam. These may be the most advanced devices to date, but hardware hasn't been the limitation for a long time. There's just no application that's more useful than just looking at your phone.
It's been the future for at least 20 years now.
I was leery of of Tizen on my Samsung TV but it's fine
We are essentially there now. We have begun the mass deployment of renewable energy and it's only accelerating. The problem is that energy consumption is also growing so it's a moving target. We are within reach of hitting peak emissions, but the fact is that most emissions will still hang in the atmo for decades. So even when we hit the point of decreasing emissions, that's still only proximate to decreasing the amount of GHG in the atmo which is proximate the heating effects on the earth. So even at our current breakneck pace of remediation, the end effects are still locked in and getting worse for at least several decades if not centuries.
This honestly just reads as harassment to me. Trump has publicly declared that he wants the federal government to own a piece of big AI companies. And not for any particular civic interest, just because he wants money and power. This feels like a first test balloon of extorting some equity stake.
Arguably the V-2 was fully autonomous as well. It was just indiscriminate.
I was a little confused by "doubled our users" since that's more about inbound traffic than site experience. I guess it's really shorthand for "halved form abandonment" which is still pretty great.
Compute is presently in shortage but generally it's a commodity. It also depreciates.
It's perfectly reasonable to want one set of rules instead of a patchwork across very open borders. But just saying "you can't do it" is pretty lame compared to actually coming up with sensible rules first.
Basically nothing happened though. SpaceX asked them to change rules and they said no.
Why did you mention being uncomfortable in hot and cold season? I still don't know what you're complaining about. If an industrial process needs a lot of heat, you can burn stuff or use a giant heat pump. It makes no difference. Idk why you think everything is going to shrivel up and stop producing as much because it uses a different energy source. Thermodynamics doesn't care where energy comes from.
Nothing and we don't have to and idk what you're talking about. I literally have an all-electric home and it's perfectly comfortable. Heat pump works great on the hottest and coldest days (outside temp has been as low 2F as high as 99F). And security benefits are also very much in favor of renewables. There is no global supply chain for wind and sun in the hands of a cartel. You have been suckered by a lot of industry propaganda.
I just said. To reduce environmental impacts. A fully electric factory drawing power from a grid of renewables is cleaner, safer and more stable.
If you're considering the total cost then you have to factor in the entire reason to electrify which is the environmental cost of continuing to burn dead organic matter. In that case, electrification is absolute bargain.
