Well, maybe we need to decide as a society what exactly enough means. I'd argue that anything above 100m is excessive, especially while other people are literally starving. But sure, let's say anything up until the first billion.

I can't argue the point as well as educated economists can. I'd like to point you to Gabriel Zucman, for instance. What really got me in the end is this: he proposes a 2% wealth tax. It's not a number out of thin air, he actually reasons very well how he got there. You know how much the average billionaire wealth increased over the last years, annually? It's 6%. So it's not even suggesting "you need to have less". It's suggesting "you should accumulate more a little slower than before".

Also, sorry, I really can't emphasise with people who got so used to having a yacht that they cannot imagine life without one anymore. It's peak consumerism, individualism, capitalism. My take is that we need to rethink _some_ things.

but it appears to be very stressful from what I can tell.

sounds like there is a win-win in there somewhere. I wonder what that would look like.

for real though, what are we talking about here? 30k a day is not enough because ... habits? plus, it's incredibly hard to spend that much. that's exactly why, after a certain point, it's basically impossible to get rid of wealth.

winning at life

What a take. Of a character that is, albeit incredibly entertaining to watch, not displayed in a good light at all.

Alternatively, he's everything that's wrong with the system. He's certainly not generating any value to society.

But yeah, in a purely individualistic take, he's certainly winning at life. While making everyone else's a bit worse.

Talk about frustration reading these comments. People knee-deep in Kool-aid, thinking this is the only and god-given way things should be.

Making crazy changes like squeezing out every last dollar out of your existing, loyal customers (looking at any PE firm ever) certainly affects the wind I'd wager.

No? By that logic you sell a dollar for 103c and that's not enough to quench your greed.

Obviously both statements are gross oversimplifications. But I could not help myself and let that slide just like that.

tbf the east-west split never really stopped haunting Germany. its not like it came suddenly. there are a lot of systemic errors that lead to this.

Yeah, I don't agree with a single point. I know we're all in our bubbles, but none of what OP listed seems left-wing to me. I know I've never thought these things to be true.

If anything, the left-wing promotes men to be vulnerable and seek help if they need it. At least where I'm from that's the case. I'm stumped how different our views are on this.

I knew what he meant and still thought it spawned an interesting discussion. Mainly because I've never quite intuitively understood that saying. So, I did not take it as OP being tedious about it at all.

What do you mean? What kind of limiting of your freedom are you afraid of regarding steps that should be taken to avoid this?

I fear we need some government imposed limitations. Hoping that every individual will do the right thing doesn't really work it seems.

Or do you mean the policies should affect companies more so than individuals? In that case I agree fully.

Now you only have to deal with that group of bullies who slowly build up resentments, and might end up paying your school one last visit.

Seems like a slippery slope fallacy? Who says the person who got bullied relentlessly doesn't show up to pay one last visit? What an odd argument.

Seems like a decent approach to me tbh.

Yeah. "put some HTML on a server" may as well say "split a few atoms" for people who have never done so.

No one is saying that it's impossible to learn all that stuff. But it takes time, has a fairly high entry barrier (despite LLMs and all that), and needs to happen _while_ keeping the business afloat.

tbh if I start worrying about poop particles in my day to day, I fear I'm one step closer to becoming a germaphobe. plus I feel if that's something that truly worries you, you'd start taking showers after each poop because clearly you will bring some poop particles with you when you leave anyway.

maybe this thread will end up being some kind of revelation, but I very much agree with the person you replied to. If I'm alone, I'm not bothered and the door may as well stay open

So he should just eat the cost that will add up over time, which is an unsustainable business model?

No, I think he should just not have built this product. However, this is my personal feeling and it seems there is some kind of market for it, so what do I know.

I genuinely do not understand how anybody could listen to Trump saying something about a topic he clearly does not know about (of which there are a couple -- let's face it) and describe it as "selling".

I'm not at all attacking you here by the way. But I'm legit speechless at that interpretation of his senile rambling.

I'd sooner believe it's because they want you to buy 2 of them, so you can charge one while using the other.

We're discussing in this context. I still stand by the claim that there are probably around zero people on the planet that bought a second MM specifically to use it while the other one is charging.

I'm not doubting that there exists a group of people that happen to have acquired two MMs, however that came to be.
