Over the past 2 months I tried hard to "make the switch". I built up a nice shinny new PC, installed Windows and Arch Linux, and told myself I can do this. Two months later, and I removed WIndows from the box (ubuntu on windows is decent, but still doesn't run a default rails app), and am running Arch exclusively. While I like the setup, I realized that I will ALWAYS be at least 20% less productive on a WIndows/Linux box.

The keyboard shortcuts, the UI inconstancies, and on linux the lack of native apps (specifically evernote) just didn't cut it for me. As trendy as it is to hate on Apple right now, MacOS is far and away the best operating system for developers and power users. It's not even close.

Having a single main modifier key on apple (⌘) is SOO much faster and more productive than switching between (alt) and (ctrl) modifiers for switching windows, copy/pasting, new window/tab, etc. It just kills my workflow.

I love my pc build and Arch Linux is pretty good. But I'm currently scoping craiglist for used iMac 5k's. The productivity loss just isn't worth it.

Actually the opposite. Make it fun. Make it a family event. Give rewards for doing their chores.

It just doesn't have as big of an impact though. Each team has a very limited set of plays it's actually able to call and execute. Maybe 300 max (as a guess). Many times much less than that. So there's really not much room for an AI to see huge improvements via play calling.

It's really all about execution on the field and the "feel" of the game.

It's an inventory/career management platform for working Artists. Slow but steady growth, mostly word of mouth and recommendations by influencers in the space. Me and one other business partner. We had our first $1k month in our 4th month of operation. We are well over that now and with current growth it should match the income of my full time job in the next year or so.

Yep. In the Denver/Boulder area I'd say we have a severe lack of talented Rails devs with good experience. Between here and SF I get contacted for 1-2 jobs per week and I don't promote myself at all. Usually it's for mid stage startups looking to expand their team or hire a senior dev.

All jobs that I hear about are full time and not remote. For startups looking to build their team, having quality people in the office provides much more than what a remote worker can offer.

Right or wrong, I've asked many female friends if they mind the term "guys" as a general reference to a group of people, and none of them mind it. Your milage may vary, but I think it's considered a general term.

I think it's pretty easy to argue that this is a states rights issue and should be left to the states. Nothing they could do would stop the momentum that we have in Colorado.

Not to mention that'd you'd be putting tens of thousands of people out of a job if you tried to "crack down" on one of the fastest growing industries in the country (where it's legal). Job creators.

Agreed. It is interesting how "up in arms" so many people are getting. I've never used TDD and have been very successful both in the startup world and enterprise world. I used to think I was "inferior" and had to keep quite about my lack of TDD. At least DHH has "put a voice" to our kind.

I span that weird space between product and engineering though. So most of the time I'm hacking in something like "prototype" mode, so TDD just makes no sense. I approach it more like sculpting. I'm slowing hacking away at this block of marble to produce an elegant "beautiful" product. Once it start to take shape I can create tests and specs to define the learnings and creations that I've made.

Tests first? It just doesn't work for me.

Same here. We were struggling to fit 2 unicorn workers on a 1x dyno but can easily get 4 on a 2x. We're paying the same amount for twice the concurrency. The 2x dynos with unicorn have pretty much solved the queuing issues for us.

Well the point of all this is that simple scaling math like that doesn't add up because of the queuing latency introduced by heroku's routing layer. But still at that scale your point is valid.

We use intercom and have been very happy with it. I must admit though being able to combine those features with the power of mixpanel is intriguing.
