I got so tired of this problem I created my own service:

http://www.ectofeed.com/

It takes a bit to set up the filters, but once you do it gets rid of all kinds of junk. I've experimented with the services that claim to be able to watch what you read/mark/save and cater your feeds accordingly, and have found them to be greatly lacking. I just don't think we're there yet in terms of what AI and similar technologies are capable of.

Anyway, you're welcome to give it a try. Feedback is always appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback. We anticipated that one of the initial critiques would be that it requires some work up front, which is true. It's really not much of a bubble to get over, though; after that you'll likely just add filters once in a while. The idea is that, in the long run, it will save you time. If you don't mind sifting through all of the cruft, though, a standard feed reader would obviously fit the bill.

If you'd like to try it out, simply drop your email address in here: http://www.ectofeed.com/signup. Rather than generate invitation codes at the outset, we'll simply generate them as needed.

I worked with him for about a year several years ago (before he got into Ruby). For the most part, his personality is just as you see him in his writing. He's very intelligent, which probably accounts to some degree for his prolific coding. I really doubt he's wealthy, though. He's too anti-establishment for much of that. Definitely a genuinely good guy, though.

Love your home page. Very nicely laid out, clean design. You do a great job of presenting all of the major facts in an easily-digestible format. Also, embedding the video right in the page made it much more attractive for me to click. I'm a Mac user, so I'll have to give it a whirl when I get more time. My initial impression is very positive, though.
