The committee now needs to proceed with refunding foreign ticket holders and it is expected to separately consider what to do with foreign spectators to be invited by corporate sponsors of the games.

Depending on what they'll decide to do, I can clearly see this becoming a situation that many will consider unfair.

I wasn't even aware of the 'libresignal/f-droid vs signal "controversy"', thanks for sharing.

Compared to SMS yes.

Unencrypting messengers, for sure. I was also thinking of messaging client that encrypt but aren't open source (e.g. WhatsApp) and clients that don't encrypt messages consistently (Telegram).

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It opened up another "level" for me of considerations to think about. I agree that a federated system are the next step in the right direction. For now I'll just enjoy for a while having completely removed myself (and some from my social circle) from the Facebook ecosystem.

We had difficulties "finding" each other. Even when sharing invites to groups, entering the group would fail.

I didn't set up my own server though, that was through matrix.org. And probably an intermittent issue.

That video explains the setup very well if one is inclined to run their own server. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe someday the apps that implement open protocols and decentralization are user friendly enough to allow non tech people to use them to talk to each other and share baby photos.

We've tried Matrix in our friend group and it was impossible for us to get it to work. And that was with a non self hosted identity provider.

Signal isn't perfect but it seems to offer better privacy and is trivial to set up.

Maybe I just didn't find the studies but I wish we knew more about the benefits of breastmilk and the act of breastfeeding (e.g. social, hormonal) and the benefits/downsides of formula.

I have this subjective feeling about one clearly being better than the other in so many ways but it's nothing rooted in facts. All the information I can find on the internet don't seem trustworthy mainly because it's so difficult to control for the socio-economic realities around who breastfeeds and who feeds formula. Plus I suppose it's difficult to do a blind trial at least when it comes to breastfeeding vs bottle feeding.

pumping works out great for everyone

You might want to ask a few (other) women about that. My partner very much dislikes pumping. Both the physical aspect as well as the emotional/psychological side of it. But I get what you're saying and I agree with the sentiment.

I'm currently working in my home office while my partner is looking after our newborn full time and I'm jealous as hell. I genuinely with I could stay at home longer than just a couple of weeks/a few months and be a full time stay at home parent. Unfortunately it doesn't work for us financially but I wish it did.

There are societies where a woman can have both, a career and a family. And that usually comes with maternity leave, parental leave, child benefits, child care, etc.

I hope I don't misunderstand you but what you said sounded to me like it's either or, and I don't think that has to be true.

I love how it says "Learn more and customize" but doesn't actually let you customize anything. Just shows you dozens of links where you can supposedly "Opt out" by going to the target directly.

I understood it to be a way to help employees feel connected to their coworkers in a way similar to what would happen naturally in an office setting. Many of us struggle with this.

Taxes imposed by a government are compulsory.

You can opt out by moving out of the country. /s

In that sense, I don't think you can opt out of the "Apple tax" because there are exactly 2 platforms both of which you have to be present on, otherwise you're not gonna reach your users.

small retail sellers will find it hard to advertise and won't be able to compete with big ad spenders that use more wholesale ad strategies

I wonder how much of an issue this is in the real world, i.e. outside of the valley or where ever people change their buying behavior based on targeted advertising. I buy peanut butter when I need peanut butter and not based on any kind of advertising. I'm running low on socks, I'll go buy socks wherever I bought socks last time. Why would I buy something just because an algorithm shows it to me, that idea is so weird to me. I wonder if I'm the exception or if I'm missing something.

I was a happy user of that workflow until I started working for an organization that blocked Dropbox but not any of the browser plugin based password managers.

Also while free, arguably the UX is not very good especially on mobile, unless Keepass integrates the way Lastpass, 1Password, et al do. I cannot imagine convincing any of my non-tech friends to go this route.
