This needs to upvoted higher. My anecdotal experience living in SF near homeless shelters for years is that there is a stark contrast in the homeless population in SF compared to other major US cities. I don’t claim to know why, but my big take away is that there isn’t a one size fits all strategy to addressing homelessness as it varies from region to region.

But it does point out flaws in the analogy
Please be more concerned about China. Why did so extreme brush fires happen? It wasn’t US stealing your water was it?
This whole argument is silly. War is dead. China will not conquer your land but they will buy your corporates and leaders souls. Why did the brush fires happen?
just make an alias :o
that is why you create incentives. grand parent was not implying that you force someone to move or companies to relocate.
something to gain: the respect of the community you actually intent to serve
it’s not just about gender equality. The west is significantly ahead in supporting LGBTQ both culturally and structurally. sure we have a long way to go but hell “trans positive” is now a selling point even Amazon fulfillment is touting and marriage is legal in many western countries. The same can’t be said about China or Chinese companies
Oh and don’t get me started about race
whataboutism and flamebait
please do not do this
Isn’t this why they partnered with boeing? To navigate regulation and bring in more aviation expertise
Sorry to break it to you but Reddit has this already
ideally the disclaimer would be your very first sentence or at least separated from the rest of text at the bottom
You are about an hour from SB, which has more of the trappings of a city
Instagram? Twitch? WhatsApp? Github? I know there are more
the amount of time that the summer intern / new grad eat up of seniors time is the problem. Tech debt that does not get addressed in a timely manner because of mentorship responsibilities is the problems
You are not alone. I am right there with you. Left my previous role because of many reasons, one being the lack of eq from senior leadership all the way down to the keyboard clackers around me. My new company is better. EQ is definitely something that we culturally care about. Sadly, as we have grown from 5 engineers to 30 engineers the cultural pillar of eq>iq has become forced and cliche. Teammates are getting praised for simply showing up and doing their job. Ladder climbers are simply praising each other during our all hands for ladder climbing behavior. Kudos are given to the wrong people. It’s a tough line to toe. It does sound like you should switch jobs as I am happier with my new problem set compared with the problem set I was grappling with before. Working at places you dislike is important as it helps you figure out what you need from a company. You should take your new found learning and apply for a company that has marked eq>iq on that culture match site :)
Does this work?
Well yes it does... if you lie about examples when proving your point you don’t think it detracts from your arguments credibility?
Dude.. this comment is infuriating. You have a valid point, but you stuff your points justification with blatant lies AND you know they are lies. You ask us to call you out but the many of us who are not deeply knowledgeable about games would not know which examples are incorrect and how many are incorrect.
From skimming over your references roughly 40 percent of your examples have micro transactions and about 40 percent do not have rich narratives. Yes, I pulled these numbers out of my ass and you can nitpick them all you want, but I work in the gaming industry and know what I am talking about /s
It’s not, I do something similar. Google results are just that much better for certain content I have found
god I tried. DuckDuckGo just does not work as well as it needs to. It gets touted as a turn key google search replacement but it’s simply not. 4 times today, I searched 5+ different ways for something after poor results, each thing took one search to find on google. Granted, maybe I am just more familiar with how to get the most out of googles search, maybe it has such a vast profile on me that it understands what I want i am looking for. Either way, i am pretty close to caving and it’s sad
This law would end up hurting the upstarts. Alternatives should be made and the consumer should be picking winners with their dollar.
every country has its history. That does not justify China’s human rights violations. I am all for China overtaking the throne as the global hegemony, if they cared about human rights outside of the Han people. Stopping the genocide on the western part of China would be a start. Either way, US being number two may give us a much needed gut punch. We can trim some of our collective fat.
Agreed, all other data points we have of the theuclydes traps did not have countries with as interconnected economies or cultures. Maybe I am over playing it a bit since I live in a densely Chinese populated area in US
Total comp yup, but guess what.. if you are senior at a non faang company you will not be a senior at a faang company, likely L4. Even then your TC will be ~250 at the right company

... we do not have the same problems. Every single software engineer I know does not work 996 even if they work at a fast-paced startup
You are forgetting pc gamers :)
If there was a cookie cutter reddit alternative and there was no content, would you use it? The network effects of reddit are a reasonably strong barrier of entry.
