I always cringe when I hear the word "Nazism." Because the first time I heard it, it was when Putin said it in a speech after invading Ukraine. And indeed, if you check Google Trends, you'll see that the term had its peak around that time and has had an increased usage ever since. Nazism is not a word known in German either. We purposefully call it national socialism. And to be honest, I think it makes sense to be national socialism. Because it is nationally socialist. Meaning it is social towards the nation. Which is also a reason why there is the "Internationale." Because to me socialism that is constraint to a nation is inevitably nationalist, I mean how else could it not be?

This framing is a concession to people who are terrorists. Many people who are optimistically working towards a better future (and here I mean broadly almost anyone) are not arguing for "infinite growth in closed systems." Everyone is and has been trying to optimize things as well as it is in their capability to improve the situation.

Yes, you are right. I'm blending the issues here. But see, I'm a EU citizen living in Berlin and naturally I've come to Milan for work and vacation, expecting to use ChatGPT. And frankly, I find it unacceptable that the Italian Garante took the initiative here and outright banned it.

You're right. I just thought the nuclear debate in the last few days was so heavily in favor of "nuclear is silver bullet for climate change" that I felt like publishing my thoughts too. It's not all gold that shines.

OP handwaves away issue of nuclear safety, incorrectly labelling it a straw man, and with it, the very real possibility of nuclear accidents. If there was a Chernobyl-scale nuclear accident in Germany, it would drastically shorten the lives of tens of millions of people, and it would make half the country uninhabitable.

IMO Solana's article is a maximalist position and I trust that no "nuclear-unsafe" argument would ever get through to him. It'd just be "agree to disagree.' Besides, there are great arguments that make the "nuclear is a silver bullet" argument of his bad if one exposes all of the nuances that went into the German decison - and that was my idea with the response.

you can run a node, build a frontend and knock yourself out with moderating. The frontend is like a VIEW table in a database. It rearranges the data but doesn‘t alter the underlying tables. So e.g. you can have a kiwi HN with HN-like moderation

I laughed a little when I saw the author hinting at TS creating complex structures. A reason I never adopted it. A great use of TS would be to type the external interfaces though!

Yeah that's fine. But you have to consider that an article called "LLM discourse needs more nuance" will never make it in the /new sub page on HN. There is so much competition that uses the same tricks but potentially less apparent than what meets the eye. Please try writing something meaningful yourself and make it work. Headline is the only thing that defines the CTR on HN, so a submitter has to make it stand out, there is no other way.
