Yes, we are North-East, not far from Canadian border. A lot of snow, cold winters. We haven't lived in SE WA but visited the area you mentioned 3-4 times. The area between Pullman and, say, Kennewick. Way fewer trees, lower altitude but winters are less cold and less snowy. I would say there is no perfect place. Once you checked your main checkboxes, paradise is a state of mind, not place itself. You will have hot summers. We are at higher altitude, I have tractor primarily for snow but summers are much cooler. And we like cooler summers. This June was mostly at 68-75F, our german shepherd and I love it. I talked to a person from Texas and he mentioned 90-95F in May and 95-100F in June - no, thank you very much. We even bought land in HI at 3000 ft elevation to have 75F in summer and 72F in winter for the same reason.

South-East WA will have hotter summers, no shade from trees and every time we visited it was windy. having said that rolling hills are beautiful, farmers are nice, some healthy rivers for fishing. Pullman and Moscow have shopping and amenities.

Similar story here. We traveled with my wife for 3.5 years. Then we built homestead on 30 acres of forest land in rural WA. Now I am 36 and we bought land in HI to build our second homestead. Then I watched on Youtube how buggy software in those tractors randomly kicks in regen process and does not allow owner to use tractor. I encourage all authors to self publish. I self published two books, prices are $99 and $199. I only sold 2500 copies in 3 years but it's a nice supplement to main income since there is no publisher and only fee is Stripe's. I often read online about authors who sold 50,000 or 100,000 copies with big-name publisher but made less money than me. Which is ridiculous.

I recommend having some knowledge for free, for example, open source project. Charge more per copy and expect lower number of sales. Continuously improve project and book. Collect reviews in respectful way.

You can also plant trees by yourself. Last year I planted 10 Siberian and Korean pines in one day. 7 trees survived, 3 trees died because I over watered them. So those 7 trees don't actually need any extra care from me.

I agree. I learned to code in my 20s but I felt real confidence only after building multiple products that have real paying customers or products that other web developers use to build their products with paying customers. After building a dozen products, I believe that I can learn and build any feature within technically possible. This was not the case after coding parts of application or going through tutorials, but became the case after building entire applications from scratch for real customers.

I live not far from where Columbia river comes out to US from Canada, in US portion of Selkirk Mountains. This is north of Coulee Dam.

It's good that salmon can come into this area but smelter from Trail, BC has been polluting upper Columbia river for about hundred years. With chemicals and smelter sludge. Fish is not edible, sand is black from sludge.

Salmon may have reached upper Columbia river, but water in that part of the river is heavily polluted.

And south of Coulee Dam, there is storage of nuclear waste, just north of Richmond, WA - Hanford site. Nuclear waste already leaks into Columbia river, north of Tri-Cities area.

So in my opinion, human created disasters in the Columbia river, rank in this order: nuclear waste at Hanford site > smelter at Trail, BC > Dams without passage for fish.
