Reading this made me think that a good solution would be to write your own filesystem as a mod if an existing system. It just needs to differ enough from existing recognised systems. Then nobody would be able to read except you and the encrypted data effectively doesn't exist. It just would show up as an unreadible partition.

This is a too big to fail scenario. If these companies fail, so does the US economy. Normal laws for individuals don't apply, so any comparison to that is pointless.

Britain and the US are nothing alike in the sense that in Britain, if you are valuable high earning worker you get actively punished for it with heavy and arguable unjust additional taxes. There are real incentives to working less and retiring early in Britain, so that's what most do.

I was looking at creating blogs and YouTube content years ago, but I concluded that because of the way algorithms work, good content is actively buried. And where it does find people, the people are trained not to want it.

It really is just a hamster wheel at this point. If you want to create content the content has to be modern day clickbait, and then there is no time or energy left to make good content. So why bother in the first place?

These days I actively avoid any website of app that uses an algorithm, because simply it doesn't have anything on it I actually want to consume.

For my own music that I make, I share it on WhatsApp/Signal with my friends and family. No point putting it anywhere else.

I use gamescope on a separate TTY that directly launches either steam or heroic launcher. I find this works exceptionally well. No window manager needed as you are playing a game full screen anyway. It fixed some other things like HDR too but at a loss of the volume and brightness keys no longer working.

A lot if this industrialisation is actually factories making products that are outsourced manufacturing. So it doesn't really make sense to say its China, India's or Vietnam's fault, when most of the products are being shipped to the US and EU and are not necessarily local born companies.

I know it'll never happen, but it would be great to have a Thunderbird headless version that runs in the tray and handles sending and receiving.

I.e. a low memory solution so you can leave it going and only open the client for actual interactions. Thunderbird is pretty bloated to leave open all day and sending and receiving shouldn't need a web browser attached.

This is how I heard about it. I never had access to anything like that. The idea that you could load samples on to it was out of my reach. All I could do was midi programming on my Yamaha XG50. But it never sounded professional. Then I discovered the world of music trackers and that carried me until fruity loops came along.

I absolutely hate the sound of my voice, and the thought of speaking my ideas in a public setting and interrupting people gives me a deep sense of anxiety.

I feel like I'm missing out on something when I look at this.

This makes me think of MSN,AOL or ICQ which had an online status and notification system.

Why did that go away with modern messaging? WhatsApp and signal don't have it. Sms? Not sure. I think Facebook messenger does.

I can remember this was an important feature that everyone actively used.

I haven't been able to use worktrees because when there are major conflicts I find the ai can't handle it. Often it ends up dropping a lot of code.

How do you manage that? How do you successfully navigate complex merges using ai?

I've been using openbox for over a decade. That's completely false. Xfce is not a memory hog. And it's not minimal either it's fully functional.

Gnome is a bloated mess of a thing and I hate it. Why would anyone want their desktop to use over 1gb of ram. I have a 32gb laptop and I still loath the idea of throwing away memory on such a bloated awful thing.

Back in 2005 I spent 2 years where I'd walk for an hour each day to the city centre. There I'd go to the book store. I read so many books, from every different section.

Eventually, I started to notice that nearly all the books seemed to essentially be repeating every other book. I stopped reading.

Today I get occasionally read books, but honestly I feel like 95% of book material is just filler.

I get far more from reading websites like this one.

I challenge the notion that reading books is something that leads to smart and well educated people. I just don't think that's true.

What I think it is that leads to that, is curiosity.

Phones take curiosity and run it into overdrive and born out. That's the issue with them for me at least.

I randomly received an email from chatgpt saying my account was suspended. I appealed it and got it back - I hadn't used it in months.

But this has left a sour taste in my mouth. What if I relied on it for mission critical business processes?

This is potentially far worse than say a gmail account going down. It's the stuff of nightmare fuel.

Not having an alternative is a massive risk for any business.

Here is the direction I'm heading in:

- I run arch on the host. The host runs qemu.

- Qemu VM 1 runs my work machine.

- Qemu VM 2 runs my financial stuff.

It took me about 2 days of work to figure out how to virtualized my machine and maybe months of tinkering after that to get it right.

I'm trying to separate general work use and payments to entirely separate security models.

I've also begun moving all dev work to cheap vps's that I run online with AI agents.

No it isn't. It's a fork of terminal with copilot embedded. All windows software has copilot embedded. So this is a an alpha version of the new version of terminal that comes with windows.

He says he adds an output message, but I've tried this myself and I find that quite a lot of the time the agent prefers its own internal monologue over the output of a command.
