>Wow, this web page looks like it hasn't been updated since 1439

Can't be, internet wasn't created until the 17th century.

On the other hand, all the relevant info is there. Maybe looking "old" is by design, being a very old hotel and all?

Frankly Google needs to be broken up. They pulled the "we're a cool company doing ethical and interesting stuff" for far too long." They are too big to exist.

I wonder if Matt Cutts is still shilling for Google, talk about losing respect.

+1. Parts and maintenance might have just tripled in price and awaiting time. Emirates protected their investment at a low price...plane for plane, why not get this and insure that someone will be there for the previous order's planes.

anyone can complain, but what will you achieve.

Let's rate representation from 0-100, with 0 or a negative being a drunk lawyer, sleeping through the trial, and 100 being the dream team, 10+ lawyers with unlimited funds.

What if your lawyer rates a 15 (scale 0-100) and simply says that that's what I really believed, given the evidence and resources avail ? Who is going to disbar /blame him when he recounts the challenges he faced?

It's not like he's gonna send you a certified letter stating those things. Especially public defenders that have another 100 cases having to attend to...it's math, x total hours a week and lots clients mean accept that freaking plea. Or lawyers that just found out that they will not get paid properly.

>"Obviously most of us would think that the lawyer should just do what's in the best interest of the client in the view of the lawyer."

I doubt the lawyer has his client's interests in mind all the time: A new trial with more money coming up, media exposure, "25 years is jail isn't that bad, could've been life," "if we wrap it up by Tuesday, I can still make for Jeff's birthday party" etc etc. Lawyers are human and representing clients is a business. The most important period in your life is just another trial to him.

Bottom line: Unless the lawyer is willing to do his client's time, he should be overruled by the person that really stands to lose, the client.

That's treason, so it's fair for me. Russians and Chinese probably shoot betraying spies after being debriefed and tortured. It's part of the equation, that's why they should ask for millions and millions, risk vs reward.

...has interests in commodities in Nigeria and other African countries, including Benin, Ethiopia, Senegal, Cameroon, Ghana, South Africa, Togo, Tanzania, and Zambia.

In some countries, suitcases or wire transfers to secret accounts beat lawyers when it comes to saving in taxes. But then, now you have your fortune, now you don't.

A more correct title would be "Bill and Melinda Gates Are Paying Off Nigeria's Polio Related $76M Debt to Japan." So Bill Gates wants to eradicate polio and has been funding countries. In this Japan loaned it to Nigeria and Bill Gates paid it off.

Paying debts for third world countries (is this still politically correct?) is not efficient, might as well give it directly to their leaders--you save on fees. A corrupt to the core, third world country would issue even more debt to buy votes with projects (after taking a 20% "fee" for the leaders,) hire more of their supporters in state jobs etc etc.

Regarding the possible cancer : "The secondary reason is an unhealthy fear of needles and a desire to live without a colostomy bag." you @ https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=15889203

You can always decide to call it quits the day after, so don't let this stop you. Even if you have it, it may totally disappear. The money issue, I understand.

To be sure, you need a $10+mil net-worth in USA, then whatever happens, you can go to Mayo Clinic and pay cash.

That's the most shocking thing for me. A bank will try to screw you every way possible. I guess, they want year-end-bonuses and by the time lawsuits are filed no one will care.

>First world problems, 6700 putters and 900 bottles of fine wine.

First world problems until the bank got involved and took away the "first world problem" thing from them.

I doubt they converted it all in USD. Maybe they invested in other crypto, and maybe somewhere between $257m and $1b might be their bank acct balance. Imagine having at least $250,000,000 and as much to hire employees! Of course they can keep 5 employees and pay "managers" xx $millions a year...no law against that, "that's how they decided their company should be run"

> if an encrypted shard of [illegal file X] is sitting on my IPFS node without my knowledge, could I be held responsible legally for holding/distributing that illegal file?

It's a very interesting question. If it ever happens. So let's freeze it for now. I mean if they use the funds to develop the company, instead of buying Ferraris and mansions.

---Any update on what they did with the $257 million they raised

They are paying people to write and release quarterly updates. Without any inside info, I can tell you that that costs money. Maybe they setup trust funds to issue such updates well into year 2087. What more do you want???
