Scared me even though it was obviously a bug once I stopped to consider the magnitude ($bn). Very unfriendly that they don't allow for hard spend caps; closed my mostly dormant personal account as a result.

Should have used Fable.
Let the profits flow!
I just saw the 502 bad gateway from last outage on a couple of sites too. Seems better now though?
Canada is def under developed
How do we get to 38oz of gold? 15k sestertii at 8g per 1k would be 120g of gold (aka 4.25oz), right? Also, where do the silver numbers come from?
Interesting approach!
Is the incidence increasing for young women or are anti smoking measures just reducing rates in old men and thus the overall demographics of those being diagnosed are changing?
Speculations on the media ecosystem when AI tools make movie creation as accessible and individualized as self-published fiction.
The idea of sorting/curating by number of hours of prompting required to produce the film is promising (and probably very game-able).
This seems like the wrong direction if you want to make a whole lot of money. Do hobby coders pay for anything?
who does these days?
Where will you go that will be a 50k-100k bump over google comp?
Also have that here. Exacerbated when the kid arrived. Haven't found a solution yet.
Biggest danger of code reviews is bikeshedding. Bonus on top of that is wall-of-text bikeshedding. Avoid if you want to get anything useful done.
What's the legality of a script like this? Could this be construed as a violation of the CFAA if you were a motivated/evil enough lawyer?
I recall some surprising legal outcomes in recent years, for example jail for posting fake Yelp reviews. Anyone know of any case law for this sort of scripting?
A lot of people here bending over backwards to try to interpret this maximally negatively.
Probably because the "Sam Altman is an amoral, power hungry mastermind who was run out of all his previous gigs" is a more interesting narrative than whatever is actually happening.
Is there more to the article? All I see is one paragraph of results and one paragraph of conclusions. Would love some more details.
Chronic wasting disease sounds ominous. Is it difficult to tell if a deer is infected or is this a mistake any hunter could make?
What is going on with the section numbering in that blog and infographic? Super interested in the content I can't focus when we start with section 7 then jump to 9 then 13 then back to 8.
July 22 I think
Looks pretty generically neutral to me. What do you find objectionable here?
Edit: I guess the comments are loading for me in goog translate. Is that what I should be looking at?
2Pac's Hit Em Up if anyone else is trying to remember the original that Tan's tweet adapts.
Same here: lot of long haul. Know of all the rumors about bad 787 engineering. Still much prefer 787 over alternatives because I find it significantly more comfortable.
Archive only shows part of the article for me. Is this a WSJ countermeasure or is my browser behaving badly?
Edit: was browser issue (FF/Android). Worked when desktop site was toggled.
More useful I think: https://slatestarcodex.com/2018/07/10/melatonin-much-more-th...
Tldr:
- take a VERY low dose (0.3mg, most pills are 10mg)
- it drags your sleep period towards when you dose
- to move your sleep period earlier, dose 7 hours before your target bedtime (e.g. 5pm for a midnight bedtime)
- to move your sleep period later, dose immediately on waking up
- dose just before target bedtime for jetlag (alternatively, just follow the above dosing schedule)
We've all now seen that the key to robust AI governance is a non-profit organization with a for-profit subsidiary combined with a majority-independent board.
Wonder how long this will last. This team doesn't seem like a good fit for big corp Microsoft.
Good get by MS though!
Going to invoke that law on headlines and guess "no".
More of a press release than anything else. Could one actually train something interesting on a processor like this? I assume you'd need a pretty custom toolchain. Hard to imagine where these processors would have a competitive advantage (but would love to hear if anyone has encountered something like this in the wild)
Makes sense. Yeah, not clear how best to track/predict large one-offs. And your original point still stands: without that 8% growth, retirement going to be a lot harder for a lot of us.
savings rate is about 50%
couldn't go more than a few months without working
How are you calculating your runway? Naively I'd think a 50% savings rate means 1 month off for every month worked.
