Hard disagree. There is no evidence that startups of India are helping the GDP or improving the lives of rank and file Indians. In my understanding, right now, all these VC funded businesses are catering to top 100M of Indian population, people who are already living US-lifestyle in India.

Many people somehow are able to overlook the lack of infrastructure and accident prone roads. Family+having access to maids, cooks, drivers, etc is a big driver of this behavior.

It's a marketing tool. It is like saying, "All these smart people believe in our growth potential. You as a potential employee too should believe us. You as a customer should think we have innovative solution to your needs"

No. Whitewashed as as in give an aura of we did no shady things, we never faked anything, we did not have to give an extreme discounts to anyone, all our discussions with customers were straight forward. We just walked into people's offices, gave presentation and they were a contract, there are no externalities to our product, we are very profitable and stress free at each step of the journey.

Also, if I were to give one advise to startup founders. Ignore all advice online about how to succeed. It's mostly whitewashed stuff. Unless you know the founder privately, 1-on-1, it is useless. The only honest ones are from failed founders.

When are you implementing a login wall like medium.com? I believe any user generated content must not be hidden behind a login wall, unless (of course) the user wants. Unfortunately, I believe that is what you will be doing soon, just because all other companies have done the same.

That's a cool story. However, I would say there are good reasons to test whether I can actually implement something. Mostly it tells the hiring manager about my quality of my work rather than a simple yes (s)he can do or no (s)he can't.

Try doing it with coderpad IDE with no autcommplete. On top of that, for Java, make sure you declare everything as static, because top level class has static on it.

A reasonable middle ground is that I demonstrate I know all the concepts in the interview and I can send a fully compilable version after the interview.

Do you think you can do or have you done this? There is a difference between the two.

One thing I wish people leeny (who work with hiring managers) tell companies is that as people start hitting 35-40, they dont' have same motivation to solve a trick coding question in 40 min interview. I can demonstrate that I have all the knowledge to do the problem, but if you want me to write compilable (throwaway) code with absolutely no mistakes, you have to loose some candidates. As you age, solving one off puzzles is a nuisance.

I am in same boat since a long time. I think you should consider hiring someone on fiverr. They do the design for you and then you go and implement it in html/css.
