It’s trivial to use a cellular connection to control a fpv drone, near real time. I’m really surprised there hasn’t been occurrences of extortion (ie protection rackets) and targeted assassinations via air droppable explosives like we see in Ukraine war. Burner phones enable this.

Do you always make things about yourself? Have you written a parser or interpreter? You should, it’s an interesting exercise. The idea is to add meta tracing to the interpreter (the c code) that allows hot paths to be compiled to machine code and be then executed instead of being interpreted.
Doesn’t affect me. I personally stopped in 2023, plus I can retire anytime thanks to the money I made then and Taco.
It doesn’t, I have one of these jobs on my resume and I simply don’t mention the others. Who would know if I don’t tell them? The IRS knows I had 3 w2s but they don’t know the dates of employment. It does so happen all three companies used the same large payroll management provider, so that company knows, but it would be pretty bad to share customer data wouldn’t it?
Glad I was over working three full time jobs (remote w2) during that period. I stacked A LOT of cash during that those years that has appreciated nicely.
This is a big turn off for me too. I don’t want to “figure it out for myself”. That’s why I became catholic as an adult.
With the fediverse I have an overwhelming fear of missing out if I pick the wrong communities. I feel like it needs aggregation which defeats the purpose.
At the very least these ai threads where we argue this ai topic will be of great historical interest as our profession either dies or mutates to something else!
This, I got married at 40 to a 36 year old. We both wanted kids and a family but for reasons it hadn’t worked out for either of us. This wasn’t a Disney romance by any means but we get along and we put in the work to make it work. We had two kids back to back and I can say without a doubt what we have built is greater than any one of us.
Trust there are some really great women in their thirties, they may not have been your first choice, you probably wouldn’t have been theirs either, but from where I sit it was worth it.
It’s my personal belief that btc has been the currency of foreign influence operations ie for paying media figures to influence popular opinion and sentiments. I believe this can be most readily seen in the US right and maga. The messaging is all very consistent across YouTube, x, fox, news nation etc across weeks, months and years.
Brexit was a proof of concept, certainly it has spread.
A video [1] was posted about his, but here is the paper.
Quitting caffeine helped me with anxiety and some mental health stuff. Ymmv
When I was moonlighting LinkedIn didn’t affect me. Every time I applied/interviewed and got hired for a w2 job, I just left my last non moonlighting employer on there, and checked the “please don’t contact current employer” checkbox. I hadn’t worked there in over a year.
Didn’t my new employer want me to update my LinkedIn? That never came up, but if it would have I would have delayed. Why should I support their business model.
Nice effort but this isn’t interesting at all. You skipped the most interesting part; parsing http. This is beejs networking tutorial with writing a file to a socket.
Harsh? Maybe, but you’re posting this to a site with some of the most talented developers on planet. Real talk, sorry.
Until science can offer an explanation of "why am I here? what is meaning?" other than random chance, there will always be religion. Some may find random chance comforting and meaningful, but most don't. Belief in God can never be proven or disproven, it's a question of faith. Faith is not logical. Nor is the reality that terrible things happen to random people; good or bad. The challenge for any of us individually is to not participate in tribalism and hate. But to act in the best spirit of whatever faith (or belief system) we do hold, for the benefit of all, and ourselves.
This is why I became catholic as an adult. I was raised baptist, and became agnostic. Then started attending mass with my now wife. Imo Protestants border on bible (the physical book) worship over all else, and ignore the reality of Jesus sacrifice. Plus the Catholic Church doesn’t require that I lobotomize myself to be a believer.
Let him go build his rockets in Russia or China. If he wants to support anti democratic folks he’ll be right at home somewhere else. Musk and his troll farm can piss right off imo.
As someone who witnessed A-10 CAS fuck some stuff up in a combat zone ie the real “brrrrt” I’ve been mystified by the meme and current useage. No one knows where it comes from nor the slaughter it represents.
Whenever people say about someone “they would never kill themselves” it reminds me of a deeply disturbing depression episode I had, thankfully only once, that lasted about 8 hours. It was the blackest morass of misery, I couldn’t bear to be in my own skin. After experiencing that I came to understand how people can do it, and the sudden onset also made me understand how inexplicable it can be.
I tried this several years ago on ebay, selling an hn account with down vote. It did not sell or get any bids at all.
I never understood the "salt scarcity in antiquity" idea. As in they could just use a splash brine water from the sea if you physiologically need salt. And transport sea water inland as needed.
Too much fox/maga media/kremlin propaganda. All the ammo given to Ukraine has been expired and due to be disposed of.
In 2018 I was working low effort job at a insurance/finance type company that was having layoffs. So I started interviewing for a new job, and landed a remote job and took it. I didn't quit my old job. So I worked two jobs for about a year and went and got a third remote job (these were software dev jobs, w2). I did this through part of the pandemic. Working three jobs was doable when it was just me at home, but with the family home during lockdown it was too stressful so I quit two. I made A LOT of money during this time. But if I had it to do over, I'd focus on getting one high paying FAANG job instead.
Apparently this became common at some point, "over employment" is a thing now, with a subreddit and everything.
Well that supports my point actually, that these "short comings" aren't short comings at all if one takes the time to learn the framework. Blabbering? People often say that who have no valid technical or intellectual response.
My daughter will be nine next month. My kids have freedom and do a lot of stuff, but I don't let my kids out of my sight. I'm benign about it so they don't notice. People say I'm a helicopter parent. Those people can piss right off.
Who thought the crypto currency killer app would be payouts to corrupt politicians and influencers?
As someone who worked on a 35 million loc cobol and jcl system for several years in the late 90's, I don't find this to be funny at all. Cobol was purported to be readable with english language like syntax to make it more understandable. Giving gems such as:
MULTIPLY TAX-RATE OF STATE(43) BY BALANCE GIVING SALES-TAX-AMOUNT.
Note the period is sigificant.Gut from the top if you want to get rid of the problem. It’s not the L5 engineer or the first line manager that’s holding any product back.
I tend to agree but there's a real danger in leaving engineers to their own devices. I know this will be downvoted, but software engineers are the worst at planning their own work. The vast majority will just go off and do wtf ever they want. There really has to be guard rails to keep an organization sane and somewhat focused.
But this post is spot on, productivety is a business problem. Software engineers will work, probably more than anyone else in the org, typically.
My only encounter with drugs (pain killers) for the past 10 years was fentanyl as part of colonoscopy. That was no joke. Just one dose had noticeable effects for a few days later. I felt fucking great waking up from that colonoscopy but man, the day or two after sucked.
As someone who worked professionally on a c++ application for two years around 2010, I took c++ off my resume. C++ is the ultimate "stump the chump" language with tons of corner cases and esoteric gotchas. I hated it and I hate interviewers who do this. You all can have it.
The reality is, in my area, Java enterprise development pays a lot more. I'm sure this is the case in plenty of other areas as well. Surprising but true.
But really after living together for that long, does that even matter?
FYI she’s not joking, you should surprise her and do it.
