Of all the things I have co-funded only our kids have given me long lasting joy.

Kimi K3 was released July 16, Fable ban was lifted on July 1 but access was still limited.

How did Moonshot "distil" a huge model in such short time and still had time to run the benchmarks and do the usual release thingies?

I think Anthropic is desperate to stop foreign competition and the administration is happy to help because they too are heavily invested in these companies

Two things don't add up here:

1. If huggingface has access to uncensored OAI models, how come they had to use GLM 5.2 to investigate the intrusion?

2. Once the model gains network access, can't it cheat to a perfect score by looking at the full dataset? Why go into the trouble of doing this kind of things:

"In one example, the model chained together multiple attack vectors, including using stolen credentials and zero-day vulnerabilities to find a remote code execution path on the Hugging Face servers."

Not saying this is marketing BS (this is after all, not Anthropic) but I feel OAI staff may be exaggerating a bit here.

While I am sure some do distillation (even r/LocalLLaMA is full of randos bragging about it), I wish the companies named by Anthropics would respond to these accusations.

I think at least deepseek can easily take Anthropics to court and win a defamation case. The number of requests allegedly done from deepseek IP range is so small it is barely enough to run a few benchmarks.

HMD Touch 4G 3 days ago

CPU: single A7, 1GHz

RAM: 64MB LP-DDR2

Flash: 128MB NAND

I think the OS is an update of the Mocor RTOS by the SoC vendor Unisoc.

I am curious if there are 3rd party apps on this device. If nothing else, it would be a fun challenge to write apps for something constrained like this.

This was not a China/US good or bad comment. And I admit it was highly off topic.

But maybe once in a while we need to remind ourselves that the world is more than stock prices and LM arena benchmarks?

Funny you mentioned H&M. They are boycotted on China due to their public stance against slave labour:

It is important to remember that China is not only about open weight LLMs, fastest cars and flying taxis. There is still a lot of very serious human right abuse going on in this country.

Yes, and its geting annoying

If you know of another forum with less politics or VC talk and more technical depth please let us know :)

Key part from [2]:

"When we started the log analysis, we first used frontier models behind commercial APIs. This did not work [...] We ran the forensic analysis instead on GLM 5.2, an open-weight model, on our own infrastructure. [...] The practical lesson for defenders: have a capable model you can run on your own infrastructure vetted and ready before an incident, both to avoid guardrail lockout [...]"

There is a 3rd party harness specifically tuned for deepseek (reasonix). Have you tried that?

HN doesn't like your tone and you are being down voted. But in general you are correct, Linux and bsd users are less affected by such shenanigans.

Short personal story:

I had a win10 machine were HP kept installing some "analytics" service. This happened even on a clean windows install so I guess they used the same delivery mechanism LG is using here. After having read the HP ToS (where they basically gave themselves unlimited rights to monitor anything I did on that machine), I decided to wipe the disk and install Linux.

But I guess it is just a matter of time before EU or US make spywares mandatory on Linux too. Chat control and age verification seems to be the first step towards that.

Cheap 3d printers are not terribly accurate, and the hot filament moves a bit (e.g. elephant foot). This method might not work well if your board is large or has very small components.

Also, even after ironing the surface will not be fully flat and some paste can end up in the space between the lines and go wasted.

A cheap low-power laser cutter is about the same price as a very cheap printer, which may be a better option if you can dial in the accuracy needed.

Both mythos and fable were available in a preview version first.

The preview models were not as good as the final release. Thus training must have continued after the initial announcement

I am afraid this is may happen soon.

Now that they have compute capacity to train larger models, there is a non-zero chance they will be in the lead by next year.

In which case they will probably stop sharing to protect their position.
