I don't think you have to convince the parent poster or seniors developers in general. You have to convince their employers that this is a valuable use of time.

I strongly disagree. The main advantage of Paypal and the reason for its popularity in Germany was the fact that it provided instant payments at a time when credit cards were very uncommon.

Cash on delivery was a huge pain since you had to potentially large amounts of cash ready to hand over to your postman upon delivery. That's the opposite of convenient.

Alternatively you could pay by bank wire transfer, which of course led to an additional delay of a day or two until your transfer actually arrived at the sellers bank account. Nobody wants to deal with barriers like these in ecommerce. Paypal was a godsend back then. Remember, barely anyone had a credit card in those days in Germany.

Instant transactions are a very recent development and are only starting to become common because banks are required by law to support them for free come October. Up until rather recently instant SEPA transfers were often either not supported or came with additional fees attached.

I think that's a very small target group. Most ambitious cyclists will use a dedicated bike computer rather than a smartphone. And rightfully so, if you ask me.

ANT+ is still very much present in the cycling world and likely won't go anywhere. While most sensors and devices will also support bluetooth it seems to be a much more fragile and problematic connection. From my own experience I'd always opt for ANT+.

I think the problem is that a large and growing part of the population is in a constant state of dissatisfaction, if not downright anger, often being fed or demanding simple solutions to complex problems. At that point it doesn't seem to matter if those solutions actually work as long as they promise change. And when it becomes clear they won't or require long term planning people will just demand new leadership and the cycle continues.

Let's face it. Most problems require patient approaches. Often changes that are made won't show their effects until years or decades later. Unfortunately that encourages short term thinking towards the next election in government and population alike.

Also it's so complicated to have UPS leave your parcel at a place of your choice (carport, deck, porch, etc.) in case you aren't home.

They have their MyChoice service which you have to sign up for and wait for a confirmation that is sent to you by mail which might take several days. However even if you take these steps it turns out that they will only match your parcels if the sender uses exactly the same address as the one you provided them. One character off and you lose any ability to set how your parcel should be delivered.

Any other delivery service does that easily, without postal confirmation for a specific parcel or any upcoming shipments.

It's up to the store owner to actually default to "agrees to marketing". I'm not sure if Shopify is to blame when it's the owner that used an illegitimate opt-out for that setting instead of an opt-in.

You know that you can disable Safari's autofill, right? I recommend it if you're using another password manager.

I think they mentioned it will be available on Windows via iCloud for Windows. But yes, seems like a second class platform for the app.

Some of the better media players and library management tools will allow a delimiter in the Genre field to allow multiple genre tags. Personally, I'm using Roon which lets you set such a delimiter to look for in the genre tag.

So true. I remember those days very fondly. There was a real community of listeners back then. Within that circle you shared albums and playlists, commented on and discussed them.

Plus, it had a persistant queue that could handle single songs as well as albums and playlists as individual items which could be moved freely. Everything I was interested in was added to the queue and I could be certain it'd still be there tomorrow. Sort of like a musical backlog.

Did anyone really expect 10 dollars a month to be enough to be sustainable? That's the price we used to pay for a single album and it seems way too low for a sustainable flatrate music service.

Users should be allowed to grant grant “always” permission, for that app version. The next time it gets updated, they get hit with the prompt again.

I think users would hate that since they don't understand why the app keeps asking again and again. Some apps are updated on a weekly basis.

Have you ever had to do tech support for non-technical users? People will make poor tech choices and fault the manufacturer for it.

You could use the same point to argue that you have a large selection of phones to avoid walled gardens like iOS.

Honestly, as an iPhone user I don't mind these changes as long as apps and services don't force me to use alternative app stores.
