That sounds awfully like something someone would say if they were trolling. I'm going to assume you weren't.

There are many things I've found I like in TextMate that Vim can't do - character-by-character undo, for example.

Yes, seriously. It's a personal preference. Is the second part of your comment intended to imply TextMate isn't a serious text editor?

Character-by-character undo is actually the reason I first started using Textmate. Most of the time, I don't want the editor to guess what I want to undo, I want it to undo each individual keystroke and action I made.

Wow, I go on holiday away from a decent internet connection and next thing you know, HN front page. Urk.

Hope it all works well for everyone. As mentioned, the source is all on github (https://github.com/thingsinjars/8bitalpha) so if there are any improvements, fork away.

I'll try and keep an eye on it in case something breaks but I'm a bit limited to an iPhone SSH client on a foreign country's network so play nice. :D

I'm glad people are finding it useful, though.

My favourite part is Top Tip 4: Create a logo.

It doesn't matter if the band can play as long as they have a cool name.

The line of questioning struck me as odd, roughly paraphrased as:

"Does god exist?"

"No"

"Erm, well, _if_ god existed, what would the nature of god be?"

Isn't that following an irrelevant line of enquiry?

As far as I remember, Microsoft moved continued development of Seadragon AJAX from the Live Labs team to the ASP.NET team last year. It's interesting to see Live Labs continuing on the consumer side.

I've found trying to squeeze my demo down really addictive.

My first version was about 990bytes, my second did the same stuff in 934. I then spent about 6 hours trying to squeeze a blur routine into the last 90 bytes. I've now got everything I want in and I've got 8 bytes to spare.

Of course, now I'm wondering what I can get into those last 8...

I've only just submitted the last verion (with blur) so it's not on yet but the previous one is here: http://js1k.com/demo/59
