I have the feeling the docker company is communicating a lot with Apple because virtualisation got better and better over the years. I wonder if podman would be a speed downgrade here?

You want delays by x days because supply chain attacks get caught very often within 1-2 days. And if you really really want to make an exception for a zero day then that's no problem and you can still quick patch by exclusion of that rule. They don't contradict in a unsolvable problem. You want both, you get both.

There was once a 2.5" SSD Mushkin Source 16TB SATA drive. At its cheapest it was ~1700 USD (or 1500 EUR). That was mid 2023 (like 3 years ago!).

Nowadays it feels like that this time and price region is like decades away in the future. I was hoping I can store more data in future on modern tech like SSDs and not less.

Meanwhile I'm still dreaming about any consumer and affordable 32TB or even 16TB portable SSD. Innovation and market for consumers are going backwards.

Funny thing is that one of the best you can get is the Crucial (Micron) 8TB one but even that one gets more expensive. I have the feeling it will be gone completely soon.

I saw some non-technical people automating or creating small great tools with it which they need for their profession. These people are not programmers.

Settled with SeaweedFS for replacing minio and getting a good chunk of S3 feature parity. I wonder about the problems OP is posting about. Never seen that behaviour but usually only having a bunch of smaller files.

The better distros have it (ZRAM) enabled by default for desktops (I think PopOS and Fedora). In my personal experience every desktop Linux should use memory compression (except you have an absurd amount of RAM) because it helps so much, especially with everything related to browser and/or electron usage!

Windows and macOS have it enabled by default for many years (even if it works a little different there).

reminds me: Ever used Gemini API on Google Vertex Cloud API? The usage will show up like 24-48 hours later in the dashboard. So when you use Gemini's API on their Cloud me as Workspace admin cannot even track my own usage in near realtime there. Which makes me think that even Google cannot track it in realtime.

On Android app it needs Claude GitHub connection with scope to act on my behalf! Otherwise it won't work in the app. Really do NOT like that!

yes it's good. But you should also look at GLM 5 and Kimi K2.5 when looking at M2.5. It's amazing we have so many good and cheap open weight models now which are really not far behind the top models from the big US AI companies.

Anthropic Claude Code and OpenAI Codex plans are subsidised.

The Chinese open weight models hosted in US or Europe make more sense to use when you want to stay model agnostic and less dependent on a single AI company with relative expensive APIs.

I've researched a little deeper. Apparently it depends on the mixture and on the model of your laptop.

I've written that because I remember of "staingate" of Apple Laptops. Apparently the 2012–2017 Retina models were really not okay with alcohol solutions.

So depending on the manufacturing year and alcohol solution percentage you can be fine with alcohol on glossy displays.

Alcohol? After research on Apple they allow:

    For infrequent cleaning of hard-to-remove smudges, you can moisten the cloth with a 70-percent isopropyl alcohol (IPA) solution.

But never apply it directly on screen. I think it's important to mention you just do not use "some alcohol" but it should be 70% isopropyl alcohol solution.

Btw. alcohol is a very good way to destroy the old glossy screens (non nano texture).

I'm totally on the side of the author. Major browser developers (including Firefox) do not care themselves for many many years.

The only "browser developer" which cares is Brave with its native built-in adblock engine (written in Rust). It gives you on desktop and especially on mobile the best out of the box experience in blocking all these intrusive ads. I don't understand people who browse the mobile web without adblocker.

Try to get a Google Vertex API key working locally. It's even more complicated. Took me literally one full day to get the whole toolchain working (had to do some pauses out of frustration).

I only went through it because I got once 300 USD for free to spend on my Google Workspace account I/my business owns.

OpenAI API usage is so much easier.

Surprising and good is only: Everything including graphics fixed when clicking my "speedreader" button in Brave. So they are doing that "cool look" by CSS.

Aider is in a sad state. The maintainer does not "maintain" for quite some time now (look at the open PRs and issues). It's not state of the art definitely but one of the first and best ones in the past. A fork was created, Aider CE, from some members of the Discord community https://github.com/dwash96/aider-ce The fork looks and works promising but there is (sadly) so much more development in the other AI CLI tools nowadays.
