Indeed but then people found out they don't care about what's behind the ticker (i.e underlying value) as long as its price goes up. You can find the same behaviour on many stocks as well(i.e $AMC more recently).

Stocks are different because there’s actually an underlying business beyond “waiting for the next guy”.

I agree but this doesn't change the fact that many people don't care about the underlying business and often the stock price and underlying business are disconnected. They just gamble whatever is "hot" or if they think they are smarter they trade the chart. In this way it's no different than crypo "investing". Both can make you rich or get you bankrupt, fast.

cryptocurrencies don't have to be ponzi schemes but most of them are because the crypto "investors" want to get into ponzi schemes.

They don't "believe" in shitcoin's "white paper" but they believe there are more ponzi buyers.

To be fair most retailers do the same with stocks so it's not that different. I don't even mention CFDs where the vast majority lose. Even "analysts" score various instruments based on "demand"/market sentiment not value.

> The Fed decision wasn't important to energy costs anyway, though.

Of course it was. Rate hiking makes the dollar more expensive for anyone buying dollars(to pay for the oil). Were they dealing with gold they would not have this issue. Not to mention if the buyer is a gold producer.

> Gold is valued in dollars. Oil is valued in dollars.

If a long term contract is signed it protects you from dollar's inflation/volatility as the contract used gold as currency. I think this is important as tomorrow Fed's decision is no longer that important for your energy costs.

The more important part is that if enough contracts are signed in gold(highly unlikely given U.S's oil exports) then the dollar is no longer relevant to the oil price.

I fail to see any value other than fliping "worthless" coins. The coins fliping is not working great either which is the reason we have binance and ftx. The real value seems to be for money launderying and scam payments though so there is indeed some value. Crypto payments for real businesses is not feasible. I've tried that and the volatility and transaction fees makes them unusuable.

I think there would be value but we neeed a real currency(i.e usd) on the blockchain. It's obvious that all those pegged currencies are prone to "bank run" scenarios. Not to mention the fiat conversion ruines the whole experience.

With a real currency we could have at least real open and standards based p2p payments which would be great! Just like with cash offline we would no longer need visa, paypal or banks to transact online.

I know what you are saying but I'm not conflating these separate issues.

The argument was made that UK cannot control its borders from non-EU immigrants because Italy at the time was giving them enough papars so they could travel legally to the UK.

To be honest I cannot recall for sure if they were getting instant italian citizenship or just some form of residency. However in the end they could even get british citizenship because they would live in the UK long enough(i believe it's 5 years) using the EU papers. There was benefits fraud as well.

Unfortunately I cannot find the articles anymore. It's almost like a conspiracy that everything regarding immigration before Brexit is no longer search-able(I know it's just Google's algo discarding old news). Immigration was the issue number 1 for the british people before Brexit. I beleive it's not over yet as european politicians are still ignoring people's concerns on immigration.

> Does a sermon instantly make it bad?

I think it does when it's "in your face" like the latest movies. It feels like a kind of propaganda that I'm not interested in. I just want to enjoy my time and watch a f*** good and entertaining movie not a jehovah witness sermon or a diversity soup.

I really doubt it. Source: I was a kid. Sex scenes definitely did not fly over. It was something I did not understand and somehow affected my behaviour more than violence between robots.

Hopefully Disney will cut the political sermon from the next movies. I've just watched "Eternals" and couldn't believe it's a Disney movie.
