Everyone knows the ivory towers are full of people who shouldnt be there. Its marvelous to see them crumble even if you arent in the chain gang below.

Nothing will improve until things get bad enough. You need enough greedy yes men doing quailty control on airplanes to escalate.

It took me decades to understand the use of and need for escalation in big organisations.

I didnt understand seemingly unproductive strict job descriptions either. Hilarious situations with 10 people doing nothing at all their entire shift (really nothing) while i had work todo on my own that really required 5 people. A few days later someone showed up to tell me the qualty was below average. LOL

Now i know i should do only half a shift worth of work. When they come complaint about it i say: very good, write it down, make the official report.

Then i hear nothing and a year later its two people with work for 5 scheduled. I tell them to slow down but we still do 2.5 shifts because they dont understand how escalation works.

The nummers now show we are 5 times as productive which isnt good for the company. The beurocracy is slow to adapt and all it has is numbers.

For many years i tried to do all of the work but that means nothing is wrong. The numbers say all is fine most of the time. Someone grinning at how much work i did isnt going to get recorded or processed.

If it looks like an unattended LLM can do a better job it means you dont know what you are talking about. If you fire everyone who noticed you might buy time but reality will catch up.

It reminds me of when they first put computers in trains in NL, they ran on windows 3.11 and no one trusted it to do anything. The solution was to give it all the data so that it could display a nice overview but it didnt control anything. Lots of trains drove around with a blue screen of death or a boot error. If there was a problem it was slightly harder to diagnose but it wouldnt drive if [say] a door was open. If the gui said a door was open you could just ignore it. On its own it means someone has to replace a sensor. If it also didnt move anymore the message is a real issue.

I imagine LLMs are wonderful for that kind of thing.

Early o. On some irc channels, forums and usenet groups the greatest trolls, clowns and crazy users were also the most knowlegable and the most helpful. They had to earn the right to misbehave. The secret sause was that anything goes but if something on topic comes along that is the only topic.

Also a wonderful formula was to promote your own website in a signature on blogs and forums. If your comment isnt worth having it is just deleted. You had to work for it and the reward was good. If your sig is a giant banner more effort is expected.

Also oddly interesting was moderation depending on how much money you sunk into the product.

A guy i know put a fancy cracked wooden floor in his rather large flat, a sofa, a coffee table, a bed, a closet for his cloths and the rest of the space was filled with the largest possible plants. Like half the size of a car. Lots of grow lamps on a 10 hour timer while he was at work. Enough green that one cant help but deeply inhale it.

I didnt believe any of it but when conventional methods failed the homeopathy worked incredibly well. So, i dont get to mock it. The same guy also gave me other alternative medication. I had to pull it out of him as he innitally refused for legal reasons.

So, i make of it that alternative medicine and homeopathy doesnt work because you may not talk about it(!?)

I regretably didnt save it but there was a truly hilarious topic on usenet sci.physics long long ago. If we've gathered enough evidence against something or if the thing goes against accepted consensus you are forbidden from doing further research and new evidence is no longer allowed. The topic then invited others to list such topics. The list grew to hundreds of entries and people couldnt resist getting angry reading their personal trigger words despite there being many more silly things on it.

One time early in the morning i couldnt remember the 6 digit accesscode for a warehouse. It seemed completely pointless to go there. Approaching the door i thought and now what?? When close enough my hand went up and typed the code. The door opened and i thought, wait, what was it? The memory was only available if my hand was on the keypad. It then seemed pointless to conciously remember it.

Take a sentence, put your hands on the keyboard with the intend to type it but dont do it.

Some time later dont try to remember the sentence but just put the hands on the keys and let them type. Its really funny seeing the text come out of your keyboard buffer muscle memory.

Some japanese guy said he played with the concept and reported that he could fit a whole paragraph or a list of things big enough that he couldnt recall it without using his hands. He could do an invisible abacus to recall it.

I didnt have one for a while and accumulated some kind of panic when it was needed.

Something funny i discover: i had thoughts or tried to explain something decades ago and made a drawing. Some of these are just a circle with some arrows. Turns out it is really hard to make a drawing bad enough that you dont know what it is. It sometimes works better than even a written description.

So you can just doodle in a notebook and tell yourself you've written it down. If you look at it regularly im sure recall will be even more perfect.

If you dont write anything down you wont be alle to access an orderly array of thoughs.

You can also accomplish lower prices by building more. People dont want that so one could argue it is good to make them pay for what they want.

I know one who spends the days seemingly not doing antthing. He spends like a month with his own thoughts and comes up with truly bizare things that work.

In one instance he raised the price of something by 1000 times without adding anything extra. His explaination was that it would build the right community. In his opinion people were to negative/sceptical and talked to much about what things cost.

Cost him 90% of the customers innitially then grew by 100ish%. As if some high end comedy the 90% said it was to expensive and that it would never work. The other 10% really needed to see what would happen.

Imagine you could buy some serial extendable base station and click all of your old phones in it.

Applications could offload all kinds of tasks.

You dont even need to invent useful applications the community will do it for you. But if you insist, think all kinds of cheap smart devices that offload the smart part.

People get scam emails all the time and most dont know the weird ui to display the sender adress and/or dont know what an untrustworthy mail address looks like.

I write little bits of code then test them. If the screen flickers i wouldnt continue until it is solved. If ive missed it and have to hear it from (a) user(s) i would kinda like to fix it imediately. Not always possible but truly annoying things have priority over new things.

The unlimited number of devs would talk about it an unlimited number of times. Not fixing it would be very expensive that way.

10 years ago i wrote a php web chat in 2 hours or so. I pretty much never look at it but the tinestamps suggest it always worked.

I could add more features to it and those will also work.

A friend once worked on an application with a huge team. He often pointed out the window at a large costuction site with a comparable number of people working. He made countless jokes about real work, a real system, real organisation etc Then one day the building was finished and their application kept crashing in production.

In the 90's i thought a government forum would be interesting because a forum is really about 1) moderation and the legal system offers the most elaborate speech moderation system. Part 2) is account management for which national id mechanisms seem specifically designed. Part 3) organizing content will probably be frozen in some half baked tree but accepable.

It would make a refreshing addition to the anon big tech ecosystem.
