Yes. Nowadays I exclusively shop & eat around these areas. But by next year I will be saying Quebec goodbye for good. Its not just businesses here, the govt services and the police too. I am not going to fund them with my tax dollars.
Good service as in when I went to a restaurant, the waiter said "You have to tip me $10 when you are done eating".
BBC is a known for its India bashing. This article has no depth and is conjuring up some kind of conspiracy theory. HN quality is going down the drain.
I am a part of a group (immigrant) which Québec CAQ politicians likes to bash/scapegoat when they get the chance. So let me bash them here when I get the chance. Thank you for noticing and sorry if you got butt hurt being a Quebecois.
Québec must learn to walk before they run. Have you seen their Panier Bleu site ? I might as well use yellow pages instead of that.
I got the Covid-19 care guide in my mail box by the Québec government in French only because of Bill 101. Language politics trumps even in case of emergency communications in Québec.
I would never buy anything from this sort of site especially if done by the Québec government. They should try to fix their Senior Home Covid-19 situation due to lack of healthcare workers because of their absurd healthcare system rules unlike rest of Canada. The premier of Quebec CAQ govt. is populist and wants to throw some raw meat to his voter base. The next one will be immigrant bashing.
Marketing speak. Do you work there ?
I totally have the opposite experience in Québec. Everywhere and anything in Québec feels red taped and low of customer service. Maybe I have to speak French. Speaking in English and being non white gets a degraded service in Québec.
Skilled immigration to Canada via Québec takes 3 years in the fastest category. In other categories it takes 4 to 6 years. Immigration to the rest of Canada takes only 6 months via Express Entry.
Québec's immigration system is the slowest, red taped and infamous for its bureaucracy and mismanagement.
They can't even get a grip on senior home issues with Covid-19 let alone have an online local shopping site. The province's bureaucracy has no limits.
Not in Quebec. The healthcare system in Quebec is in ruins with extended wait times and walk in clinics turn off walk ins frequently. Nurses & Doctor shortages are acute in Quebec to the point that retired nurses are being asked if they could come back to work.
Stressful times for temporary skilled foreign workers in Canada & international students on study permits.
Foreign worker visa extension delays and loss of work visa status will happen. Also those who applied for permanent residency while working in Canada are going to see long wait times.
Chrystia Freeland diplomatically dodged questions concerning the work permit holders & international students in Canada when asked by a reporter.
not indian but Indian with a capital I. But why pick on Indians in particular ? Please be civil and keep your racism at home.
Quebec's immigration system denies French citizen because her thesis had English in it.
This is what happens in Québec immigration department. Red tape and mismanagement.

There was a Wendys recruitment drive in India some years back. The reason behind that was they could not find restaurant workers in Wendys Alberta. I find it very hard to believe they could not find local Canadian workers.
The truth is it's not implemented yet though they say it is. Anyone that I know of are still waiting on the Québec immigration department to process their files for the past one year in the regular skilled worker category.
That points system is not followed at all. Québec immigration department is one such department in Québec which needs a thorough investigation on their practices and selection criteria. Low skilled workers from France is given undue priority in the name of language without any other employable merits.
Canada and especially Québec should do this too. Québec has a lottery system for visas. First come first serve. Rest of Canada has a points based system but is being played by low skilled workers.
So if it's difficult to tell the difference, why celebrate one side of the story and that too by a western media which has no idea about the ground realities in Kashmir. The article is also written by someone who is not an expert in political journalism. Techcrunch should stick what it does best.
The India government is taking action against spreading misinformation & fake news via VPN enabled social media. What is wrong here. Title is misleading and sensationalist.
Literacy is key to eradicate authoritarian BJP in India. Because the last standing state is the most literate state in India which is Kerala.
What good is this story to be on HN ? There are so many scammers out there on CG. Let's list all of them in HN because it really pikes ones intellectual curiosity.
a lot of Ozzies I’ve met told me they went to Paris and felt hated by parisians
It's the somewhat true in Québec too, but Québec isn't busy like Paris, so there must be something more to it.
The govt tries to force feed French to new Quebeckers who wants to settle in Québec. I am an expat in Québec. The attitude of Francophones and the Language Policing in Québec makes me not wanting to learn French at all even though it's the best opportunity to learn French. While I understand the reasons behind protecting French in Québec, I feel it can be done differently than by being rude and coercive. Ex: The pastagate in Québec.
Oh yeah, you should come drive on Montreal roads. Lane markers don't exist.
Don't text and autopilot on level 3, which is a nascent technology. An engineer should know better. Wonder why a level 3 is allowed to market as an 'autopilot'.
Oh blame the third world for climate change because they are busy building their economy & uplifting of their poor.
Has the colonists accepted the responsibility for their plundering of once wealthy countries that's called "third world" now ?
That is ethically wrong even though a Canadian PR allows you to live and work anywhere in Canada including Québec.
I was speaking more to the high skilled foreign workers in Québec who have to wait years for a permanent residency because they work & reside in Québec. This delay also applies to foreign students in Québec who wants to apply for permanent residency after their studies. Québec is not a good choice for foreign workers and students in Québec who wants a permanent residency. Rest of Canada follows Express Entry but those who work or reside in Québec is not eligible for the fast track process. One country two rules.
3 years.
Don't worry, they will come to US once they become Canadian citizens on a TN visa.
You are absolutely right. Salaries in Canada are pathetic. Anecdotally, I know many who did this TN visa to go back to US. US still wins despite the broken immigration system.
