As a fairly green React Native dev, I don't know that I've ever believed React Native to be "write once, ship twice" framework. Mostly due to some of the constraints you outlined. I'm more a believer in the "learn once, write anywhere" approach, where, designed correctly there could be a lot of reusable components and then some specific to each device, but mostly I only have to learn the nuances of the language once.
I find that as a developer, freelance becomes extremely difficult to manage client expectations with cost. They always want all of the features, without breaking the bank. However, I could see if you take that leap, then there could be more time to manage that. I have yet to have the guts to take that leap.
I understand gitlab to be a test bed. But at least this time they didn't delete the wrong directory. I know, I'm late to the party since service has restored.
