As a GraphQL consumer I rather enjoy using it over Rest. I always found myself making feature requests to backend teams before. Not anymore.

Maybe less true now, but it seemed like when products had public APIs in rest, they were different endpoints than what their own internal teams used.

Whereas with Gql it seems like internal and public frontend people used the exact same endpoints, which gave the public apis more power.

In this thread below, it seems like a lot of people on HN don’t like GQL.

I’ve NEVER gotten a spam or phish from a blue bubble. 100% are green.

Green could be any type of source. Android, Twilio, google voice, who knows.

But if a random number comes in and it’s green, more often than not it’s spam. If it’s blue, more often then not there’s a real person behind it.

I prefer laravel as well but it’s definitely not as snappy as an spa since I have to load a full page of html at each click. What are you doing differently that I should be doing?

Currently, I’m doing a hybrid sometimes where I’ll have jquery do a call inside the page when I want one particular area to be fast.

@pumpkinman - IMO in regards to business viability it’s just as valuable to see someone’s process of how they came to the conclusion as the conclusion itself

The art world itself in some ways could be a sham. But also there is real art and business happening.

I’m not so sure it’s complete bs. Ive worked with Steph on a dozen design projects through his brand. Typically I’m actually only interfacing with his team so I’ve only met him personally a few times and only for a few minutes. The last project I got to meet him again at the roll out. I pitched the idea of creating NFTs for his foundation to the guy running his foundation. The guy was totally interested. A few seconds later Steph walked by (and wasn’t being mobbed by everyone around) and the guy told Steph “this guys talking about NFTs” … Steph did a triple take and eyes wide and seemed genuinely juiced to talk about it. Moments later he got mobbed by kids for autographs and that was it.

Not saying NFTs are not a sham, just that I was super surprised at how interested he seemed in the subject.

Curious what you don’t like about Trello. I rather enjoy it. It’s the only “proj mgmt” software I keep coming back to for the last decade.

My guess is too lazy to cut and re-terminate the cable.

I find waze'S strong point is in dense metro areas where there are many routes to consider, like LA/OC.

That's where it shines. Other than that It seems to eat a lot of battery and make my phone run hot so I stick with Google elsewhere.

ah yes. foxpro! this is the first web language i ever learned. it was awesome because the db and application language live in the same space. You could run SQL directly inside the language...

When i learned the "best practices" of the time (1996 ish)... i thought it was extremely inefficient to have to "formulate a sql statement", then call it then retreive the result...

wow... i've always dreamed of planning an exact mission like this. i've boated past the mothball fleet many a time... learned how to climb, rapel, bought all the gear, etc.. hoping one day i might work up the nerve to pull something like this off. hats off to these guys, amazing story and photos...

+1 to your decision. I HATE site that use usernames instead of emails... i wont even use sites that do that unless i really really have to (like my health care provider).

shouldnt be too bad, because the button they click to login says "Persona," as does the email. I guess if a person is already familiar with logging via fb/google/twitter, then they should "get it." but someone not familiar with logging to site A using credentials from site B.... yea i can see that being confusing.

I'm 5'9" 150#. I was diagnosed with scholiosis in jr. high, had lower back pain when sitting all through hs and college (back when i was 130#). I too tried the standing desk and it didn't help.

Here's what helped -- about 3 years ago I got into squats and dead-lifting. I got them up to 1.5x and 2x body weight, respectively. I didn't gain a whole lot of weight, but my core strength increased tremendously.

Maintaining good posture requires some (~10-30%) flexion of the core/abdominals at all times while sitting. Now, after learning proper form of squats and deadlifts, my body goes into proper sitting form without even thinking.

Back pain is completely gone. squats and dlifts -- highly recommended!

Great post. I agree with your assessment of work and young people. I don't know if he's fully saying this in his speech though. In one part he is saying dont feel entitled to things and experiences...you need to work for it and make it happen.

Is it not worrisome that they only have one db server with no hot-backup or fail-over db machine? I suppose many components on that one machine are redundant - disks, cpu's... but theres got to be many points of failure in there as well right?

you would think MS would cut them a super deal on licensing, being that S.O. is such a major site utilizing and promoting their platform, (and its demographics match who they'd want to promote to). If S.O. goes down or has problems due to a SQL server issue like this, (or them not affording another license) that looks pretty bad.
