Any body can share a success story of using category theory gainfully to any CS/SWE problem that couldn't have been solved without? No Monads isn't one, you would invent it naturally when the situation calls for it. I spent a year studying in grad school and I ultimately abandoned it.

It's one of his most accessible movie, and usually resonates with tech people for obvious reasons. His best movies imo are Mirror, Ivan's Childhood, Andrei Rublev, Stalker and then Solaris, Nostalgia and Sacrifice.

Now Solaris book by Lem is far superior to Tarkovsky's rendition.

But also learn one or two languages that fit your domain of work, really really well. I have seen too many programmers that justify their lack of skills in their main language they are supposed to know by bragging about their knowledge of some hipster language they rarely use. "my code is way too slow, but hey I know the syntax of dependent types in Agda..."

your statement sounds like this is a point of view taken by the majority of people who live in Europe. Simple facts about the number and density of cities through out the history of the continent point to the exact opposite.

sure, sanctions may very well be one of the factors causing such high inflation levels (although I am hesitant to say that they completely explain away the massive increase in the money supply. FWIW, according to IMF, in 2008 Iran's M1 base has been around $70 billion[1]. Giving a population of over 75M a $1.5 * 365 does nicely increase that base by around 50%). My main main point however was not to claim that the UBI program caused the inflation, rather to challenge the reliability of the main claim of the report as to the change the UBI makes to people's working behavior. Under such high inflation, whatever the cause, people need to work more, rather than less, to make ends meet, so comparing their behavior to pre-inflation periods is just bad science.

The account is named ka-engineering, no need to mine posting history. There are some world class engineers working in KA (e.g Craig Silverstein), I would take their blog posts over most medium junk stuff often posted here anyday with utmost gratefulness.

Yeah it's really, really crazy if you are in the position of authority over whomever you are harassing. It's still a huge problem even if you have the other person's consent. Uber HR is a real shitshow for not even realizing the basic fact that this is not just bad for the employee but is colossally hurting the company's interest too. I have worked in companies in third world countries and don't think this level of hostility and lack of principle is even present there.

I agree that technical interviews are broken, but not in the way that the author describes. I think the interviews should retain the algorithmic questions, but do away with language gotchas and design patterns etc. More emphasis should be added on the following topics: distributed systems issues, traits of modern hardware (cache efficiency, concurrency issues). There needs to be a part about mathematical competency introduced as well. Knowledge of basic probability, statistics and linear algebra should become part and parcel of the engineering interview process.

no it's not. it's more like, the most common dispatch pattern used in C++ (and most other OO languages) as a factor of 7x performance penalty over the less widely embraced alternative. The popularity of the former methods is partly due to the ignorance of programmers to its performance implications. I have seen huge code bases that had to be retired because of their over reliance on OO, and dynamic dispatch.

Tesla really shines when you want double precision computations, e.g., for scientific computing, solving PDEs etc. Extra precision is however seldom useful in deep learning, so you will likely get the same performance with the much cheaper GeForce series.
