you had to build a model of the world just to survive the tension?

The world the author is describing currently has LLM in it. Irrespective of the author liking it or not, it is here to stay. So to build a model of the world, you would still need to consult an LLM, understand how it can give plausible looking answers, learn how to effectively leverage the tool and make it part of your toolkit. It does not mean you stop reading manuals, books or blogs. It just means you include LLM also in those list of things.

Could be lot of reason. Older European cities with high-density stone buildings and less green space often trap heat more effectively than typical U.S. suburban layouts. Europe has a larger proportion of elderly residents (aged 80+), who are the most susceptible to heat stress. You just picked a data and are trying to fit your narrative on top of it without really considering all possible aspects.

Yes, the fact that heat on electric is controlled by switching on and off cycle is what prevents me from switching to it (I believe induction does the same to control the heat). We need no fancy control or michelen rated appliance, just a basic gas stove allows us better control than electric stove.

I love cooking on gas. As you mentioned the convenience is unmatched and it is a pleasure compared to cooking using induction or hot plate. Induction certainly seemed more efficient with how fast it used to boil water, but when cooking food, gas always wins for me. Not to mention, lot of pans I have will not work on induction or hotplate.

I have felt the same thing. The MacBook is an awesome piece of hardware, with a bad OS on top of it.

I started with hunt-peck style typing and can now type without looking at the keyboard because of muscle memory. As you mentioned, typing has never seemed like a productivity impediment to me since I don't think I ever had to type at 120WPM when programming.

I don't think it is no longer true that apple has a good UI. There is no option to view contacts in Mac OS Facetime app.The window management in Mac is subpar without downloading a third party app. The keyboard shortcuts do not work uniformly across all the apps...and more.

I use stainless steel for a lot of my cooking and grew up in a household without dishwasher. When I got my hand on a dishwasher as an adult and tried out washing the stainless steel utensils in it, I saw that the steel utensils had a coloured pattern left in it - it is similar to the pattern seen when petrol mixes with rain water on the roads. I am not sure if that is safe. Anybody know why this occurs?

Atleast for me, the experience with Facetime has been less than optimal. For some reason the call option to some of my contacts is always disabled even though they can call me.

The left hand side of the window in Mac always displays recently called. No idea how to access contacts in the Mac app.

The video quality is all right.

I agree that the manipulation is automated and intended to increase their profit. The effect seems to be that it creates really bubbles where you only see views that align with your existing world view. My own experience - I have my own YouTube profile filled with videos which reflect my political opinion and the feed of my friend who leans towards the other side of the political spectrum had videos reasserting his world views. I don't think the big tech is trying to steer socius towards one unified political view.

The worst part of this is that Apple could have easily predicted this, that there would be demand to download the new OS, and put in place measures to prevent this from happening. I guess they just do not care.

I guess the reply to stevewodil clarifies some of my concerns. Window management: Native window management makes it difficult to dock them or move them across screens. Rectangle allieviates some of those issues, but things like command+tab not working on minimised application, having to use a different shortcut to switch between windows of an application is not ideal. In MSWindows, windows are first class citizens and alt + tab works across all the cases mentioned above.

Keyboard shortcuts are good, the issue is it does not work across all applications. One example is the end key going to end of line in some application and end of page in others. Ctrl + E does not work on some application etc. This probably partly the applications fault, but it does make for a subpar experience. I assume the butterfly keyboard needs no explaination.

The keyboard shortcuts are good, but the problem is they do not behave the same across all the application. I guess the problem is partly the application implementing them (one example is the end key going to end of line in some application and end of page in others. Ctrl + E does not work on some application etc).

I have been using Rectangle now which makes window management bit more sane. But things like command+tab not working on minimised application, having to use a different shortcut to switch between windows of an application is not ideal. In MSWindows, windows are first class citizens and alt + tab works across all the cases mentioned above.

I recently swithced to Mac as my primary dev machine and I am not a big fan of it. Things like bad window management, shit keyboard(butterfly) and the keyboard shortcuts not working uniformly across all application makes it a subpar experience compared to Windows/WSL/Surface or Lennovo laptop.

I do agree with some of your points but looks like outsourcing industry is the favorite scapegoat these days for any failure. From other anecdotes in this comment section, various other reason are being thrown around for BA repeatedly having IT failure. So without any proper analysis it would be premature to conclude one way or the other.

I am not sure about vegan diet but I have many friends who have been vegetarians(include dairy products in their food) their whole life and are healthy. Have never heard of a link between being vegetarian and vitamin deficiency. I presume as long as we eat a wide variety of vegetables and lentils, it should be fine. NHS seems to support the case as well:

I believe cutting back on meat would still be a significant improvement over the current situation.

I have had bad experience with Chromecast. I used to be able to cast by mobile phone to the TV to watch videos. But after some software update the casting would no longer work because I was using mobile data and mobile hotspot. Something which used to work when I bought the product stopped working after a software update. Also there used to be a dedicated chrome cast app - but they replaced it with Google home app which has countless things I do not need. Also the home app is more flaky than the older dedicated app. My confidence in google related have gone down rapidly and I am no longer willing to adapt new google products and ma planning to move away from what I am currently using.
