I built a cmux-like sidebar for a fork of wezterm, called wezmux https://github.com/vcabeli/wezmux

If you know, you know. I wanted to like cmux but I had tons of problem with fonts or scrolling behaviors and I don't need a web browser in my terminal, so I went back to wezterm and added the nice sidebar for my claude code / codex notifications and output previews.

Well it does sound reasonable but I don't think it is as convincing as OP thinks. If you take two IQ tests in your life and get 130 and 138, I imagine the variation to be higher than the group vs group comparisons he mentioned (maybe not doctor vs craftsmen? it is after all very correlated to education level) but it doesn't mean the measure is "nonsensical and ever-chaning values such as whether I liked today's dinner.."

My experience with MMD is that unless you've been using it and are familiar with other kernel methods, you probably won't know what to do with it : what kernel do I use ? how can I test for significance (in any sense of the word) ? Add the (last I checked) horrendous complexity, to me it looks like a less usable mutual information (or KL div) and without all the nice information theory around it.

Take a look at this experiment in Siberia : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pleistocene_Park

The aim of the project is to research the climatic effects of the expected changes in the ecosystem. Here the hypothesis is that the change from tundra to grassland will result in a raised ratio of energy emission to energy absorption of the area, leading to less thawing of permafrost and thereby less emission of greenhouse gases.[8][9] It is also thought that removal of snow by large herbivores will further reduce the permafrost's insulation.

To study this, large herbivores have been released, and their effect on the local fauna is being monitored. Preliminary results point at the ecologically low-grade tundra biome being converted into a productive grassland biome and at the energy emission of the area being raised.[10]

Is there a rule for banning users that sell their account for this type of comment ? If not there should be

It seems to be the scientific consensus. I personally don't think genetics carry any hereditary claim to a thousand years old culture but it always bothers me to see people go against state of the art scientific conclusions (unless they have good evidence of their own).

Copts share the same main ancestral component than North African and Middle East populations (dark blue), supporting a common origin with Egypt (or other North African/Middle Eastern populations). They are known to be the most ancient population of Egypt and at k = 4 (Fig.3), they show their own component (dark green) different from the current Egyptian population which is closer to the Arabic population of Qatar.

How about "Follow official recommendations" instead ? In France Macron made a show of going to the theatre urging people to live normally (within the new regulations, e.g. no mass gathering above a certain size).

Advising people to stockpile food this early is sure to make the situation even worse.

How was this published with wrong numbers? A simple wikipedia search gives you different estimates (parentheses)

Plague of Justinian 541-542 100,000,000 (25-50M)

Black Plague 1346-1350 50,000,000 (75-200M)

1918 Flu (Spanish Flu) 1918-1920 20,000,000 (50-100M)

Moreover we got here by small modifications of the DNA.

That's not true, at least not if you start from the beginning.

There were a lot of "freak events", large scale mutations like whole genome duplication, integration of other organisms e.g. mitochondria, transposons etc...

The 'compiler' is also built from DNA. The amount of epigenetics inheritance is subject to debate AFAIK. In the end look at what's being passed on to carry the information through generations. It's (almost) just the DNA !

friends I haven’t seen for weeks and don’t otherwise know their cycle.

The cherry on top of your out-of-this-world comment. Do you know and/or keep track of some of your friends' cycles ?

Localised populations of devils have also been severely reduced by collisions with motor vehicles, particularly when they are eating roadkill.

They are also found near roads where roadkill is prevalent, although the devils themselves are often killed by vehicles while retrieving the carrion.

"Most countries in the European Union allow abortion on demand during the first trimester, with Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands having more extended time limits. After the first trimester (Ed : after 12 weeks), abortion is generally allowed only under certain circumstances, such as risk to woman's life or health, fetal defects or other specific situations that may be related to the circumstances of the conception or the woman's age." Do you have any idea how much surface there would be to cover outside of your own backyard for this to be effective ? Are you aware that 1/3rd of the Earth's surface is covered with snow at some point of the year but that snow cover has been declining for decades ?

It truly boggles my mind that you think painting stuff white is the first step to take to take on climate change.
