I have been using Fi for more than 5 years now. It has worked pretty well domestically and roaming in many countries (except North Macedonia in 2016). When roaming internationally there could be speed limits but in general it is pretty good.

In some markets, e.g. San Francisco, it does not make financial sense to buy and renting is a better option.

Actually, you would have to restrict your protein intake to small amounts to be in ketosis. It is very easy to get out of ketosis by eating a bit too much protein because it gets metabolized into glucose.

The Castros are the main responsible for the dire economic situation of Cuba. Regardless of all the international relationship mistakes he made, Fidel Castro stands as one of the most economic incompetent of all communist dictators, with the notable exception of the ones in North Korea. Despite the embargo which affects mainly the commerce with the US, Cuba has always had commercial relations with many countries that were largely unaffected by the embargo. He basically had the whole country under his control. Think about a CEO of a very diversified industrial and agricultural conglomerate. He managed to screw it all and there was no other reason than his incompetence.

You are just a victim of propaganda. Cuba had decent education and decent healthcare system by third world standards but the Cuban economy wasn't able to support either of them and everything came tumbling down when the soviet money stopped flowing in.

It would be also very interesting to know from where you get that figure that more than 50% of the population support the Castros as that data is famously unavailable.

First of all, Fidel Castro had the support of most of the Cuban population. Everybody opposed the old brutal dictatorship. Second, Batista regime did not have the support of the US. Quite the opposite, there was an arms embargo against it.

I doubt anybody in their right mind and with enough information about Cuba could actually think that the Cuban government could be subverted by a social network. The government controls all communication in Cuba and they listen to it ... all the time! The minute something smells a little anti-government, it gets shut down immediately and people go to prison and are made an example on national TV.

It really does not matter where the money came from to create this network. At the end the Cuban government controlled it and there was no way it could be used for subversion. I really doubt that was the original intention of the project.

This is a disguised exaggeration. The equipment Alan Gross brought to Cuba was completely normal (radios, blackberries, routers, etc) with the only alleged exception of some protection against geo-location for satellite phones.

I have to suspect the article for its bias towards Cuban propaganda.

Warren Buffet likes to argue that he does not make risky investments. With that in mind and under the light of how profits are made by the financial sector, it is pretty clear that when they make risky investments it is mostly with the client's money. The rest is just friction, like a toll booth.

There are also some tradeoffs when switching languages. Some people would never make the move from C to C++ citing unnecessary complexity (e.g. Linus Torvald).

This is essentially a question of having the right tool for the job. Switching from C++ to Go is probably a good decision some cases and a bad one in others. But one should not remain so anchored in one language that won't be able to consider some other, probably better, option.

Everything related to medical devices is very capital intensive. From regulation compliance, to quality procedures, to patents and licensing, you need a lot of specialized people working for years to bring a product to market.

Obviously eating less will cause weight loss. The problem is actually being able to eat less and to keep doing that for life. Maybe that is not a problem for you ... so far, but it is a real problem for many people.

This article could shed more light on the obesity problem and solutions to it. For example, it could very well be that our intestinal flora influences our own decision making. There is at least one known case of a micro-organism that does: the toxoplasma gondii.

It is also apparent that people become addict to sugar and that definitely would influence decision making.

On top of that, our behavior is in great extent influenced, if not determined, by the chemistry of our bodies. It may very well be that chemical imbalances caused by a combination of diet, intestinal flora and hormones, causes obesity.

In short, saying that it is simply a problem of calories in and calories out is a gross over-simplification of the problem. Science is way beyond that point.

Of course a calorie is a calorie, but this is more than often used as a simplistic view of how the body processes food. Now it is clear that both the type and amount of food one consumes influences the hormonal system and gene expression. It is naive to keep thinking just in terms of calories.
