My reading of this press release is, "We will help you to write scripts that use AI to automate business processes".

Is this the correct reading? If so, I'm not that impressed.

When I start exercising and tracking how many calories I burn, I realize how hard it is to outrun your diet. Thinking, "This cookie would cost me 35 minutes on the treadmill," is a huge deterrent.

When I stop working out, I quickly forget what calories actually cost.

I did this today it was amazing. If I would have had time I would try other models as well. Great tip thanks

I think people like me just enjoying sharing when something is working for them and they have a good experience. It probably gets voted up because people enjoy reading when that happens

I have been using chatGPT a ton over the last months and paying the subscription. Used it for coding, news, stock analysis, daily problems, and a whatever I could think of. I decided to give Gemini a go when version three came out to great reviews. Gemini handles every single one of my uses cases much better and consistently gives better answers. This is especially true for situations were searching the web for current information is important, makes sense that google would be better. Also OCR is phenomenal chatgpt can't read my bad hand writing but Gemini can easily. Only downsides are in the polish department, there are more app bugs and I usually have to leave the happen or the session terminates. There are bugs with uploading photos. The biggest complaint is that all links get inserted into google search and then I have to manipulate them when they should go directly to the chosen website, this has to be some kind of internal org KPI nonsense. Overall, my conclusion is that ChatGPT has lost and won't catch up because of the search integration strength.

My read on this is most jobs growth in raw numbers occurs in the lower pay brackets. In those pay brackets supply has decreased and the people doing the hiring have not raised wages. This means these jobs aren't being filled and the work isn't getting done. This leads to lower jobs numbers and keeps unemployment rates stable.

Have done some of these recently - Smaller teams are better value/$ spent [Confirmed]

- More frequent releases accelerate learning what has real value [No improvement]

- Limiting work in progress, solving one problem at a time, increases delivery throughput [Continued]

- Cross-functional teams experience fewer bottlenecks and blockers than specialised teams [Confirmed]

Empowered, self-organising teams spend less time waiting for decisions and more time getting sh*t done [Confirmed]

Additionally, smaller teams 1-3 engineers per project who are empowered are much happier. Side effect was time spent on process, tickets, communication dropped dramatically. Time spent on creating and confirming increased.

In a large organization solving your own blockers can be the difference between releasing next week and releasing next quarter. More frequent releases only help in a business where users adopt new features quickly.

Paid for it and tried out the full experience, beats anything else I've tried by a wide margin.

My prompt,

"I'm considering buying stock in the company with symbol NU. The most important thing to me is answering the question, is the stock likely to rise in the future. Please help create a list of questions that will help me to understand the likely hood of this. Also please help to anwser those questions. Please highlight the global economic environment for the company. Any unique challenges and unique advantages. Finally let me know what others think of it"

Results: I know this stock well all though I'm not a pro. It nailed all of the relevant aspects and hits the analysis right on for everything I know about it. Pulled lot's of helpful resources and most importantly the information was timely enough to be relevant. The timely part is where other LLMS have failed miserably. I've gotten good analysis from other LLM products but they have always been way out of date which makes them useless.

I can't help but have a negative reaction to having this discussion at all. All human beings are unique and different. Getting a group of them together means you will have a unique group dynamic.

Each team needs to develop a process that meets the needs of the group. For some teams standups are useless because the team is on the high end of the communication spectrum and also on the high end of the process spectrum, meaning they communicate well and update their tickets. Other teams are on the low end of both of these and benefit from standups and management structure that forces improvements to both of those.

Agile is about building systems, tools, and processes that allow your team to win. That requires understanding how your team operates and what they need to do their best work. There will never be a right answer to the majority of these types of questions.

I worry about that more than I’d like to admit. However I have far peace and fulfillment than I’ve ever had so the trade off is good. I think Scott Galloway said nothing is ever as bad or as good as you think it will be.

When I was 20 I worked at Costco while going through college and one of my coworkers was previously a software engineer at sun microsystem. He ended leaving the industry because his skills were up to date enough but he was happy in life and had paid for most everything he needed already. It would be unpleasant to go through but make wise financial decisions and ride it out as long you can. Also I maximize my 8 hours a day and do my best to learn on the job.

I’m a Christian if that makes a difference. The book spoke to me about the idea of believing we will find meaning, purpose, and fulfillment in things if we just try hard enough. If I have the right idea and execute on it I will final be happy, if I reach a certain level in my company I will I’ll finally feel that feeling of the ultimate win, if I have enough friends, or leisure or whatever. None of its going to bring that sense of peace and fullness we are seeking. It must be found outside of our striving. As a Christian I find that feeling in God and being present with family.

I found in my mid thirties that my perspective on what was important and desirable shifted significantly. Which led me to become disengaged from my desire to build side projects and learn new programming languages. It was a time were ecclesiastes from the Bible resonated a lot. After a while I just found out that I wasn’t interested in nothing but I had to rediscover what was important to me and what I valued spending my time on.

While my current lifestyle doesn’t lineup well with the tech grind and won’t get me attention online I’m much happier living a lifestyle that serves me and family rather than some external validation. Hope that helps and good luck on your journey.

I agree, I've tried numerous times to get my kids interested in the games I love from childhood, and they find them so boring. Modern games have a level of pacing, engagement, and art style that are all really attractive to kids, it's hard to get people with no nostalgia to go backwards. However, there will always be some that are attracted to retro and lofi but not the majority.

I should have added more detail but I was attempting to be brief. I meant that a junior engineer should focus on learning how to do the basics of their job so that they can provide features that help our group meet business objectives. A large part of getting there will be needing mentorship and asking lots of questions. The context is that often juniors need so much hand holding that the cost of their mentors time is more expensive than the value of the feature being produced. I wasn’t even considering their salary.

I think of all of these problems as being the managers problem and not the engineers problems. Maybe a better title is "10X Manager tasks, I wasn't aware of as an engineer".

To help engineers maximize their career I tell Junior/Level 1 engineers focus on becoming net productive, meaning providing more value than you take.

Midlevel/Level 2 engineers should becoming independent and solving lot's of their problems on their own. As they approach the top of this level start getting involved in architecture and design.

Senior/level 3 should focus on helping the team to be successful as a whole, mentoring, producing value quickly when needed, and should be able to solve most problems independently including starting a project from scratch or solving complicated performance/technical problems.

Hiring and people problems are engineering manager problems.

Getting to know your coworkers is a good career move for anyone.

It makes me wonder if humans are aligned much more to primitive life than we believe. I wonder if our ancestors spent long stretches of time living off reserves and waiting for spring to come. Then in spring they started working hard to replenish store. Maybe it's natural or instinctual to do very little when we aren't motivated by the need to provide for ourselves?

Throughout my career I've spent a lot of time stressing out about how productive I'm being. Trying many different methods. Finally I decided that if I feel stressed out about my productivity I would write down everything I've done during the day. Usually turns out I've done a lot of stuff that I it's actual work that I just discount as not work. Some days get taken over by mandatory work that doesn't feel productive but is.

As a Christian I've been attempting to focus on the concept of letting go of the worldly and focusing on "Kingdom". The unique challenge that I'm finding is that I'm not particularly tied to my possessions, positions, or wealth but it's important for me to provide those things to my wife and kids.

I can deny myself those things but I find it nearly impossible to deny my family those things. We live way above average and I would prefer at minimum to bring it down to average but it's so hard to say no when I have the ability to say yes.

It might help if you considered the idea that you no longer enjoy coding. I and several people I've met just no longer enjoy coding, which is different than burnout.

I'd say burnout is when you have worked at a greater capacity than what you are capable of for so long that your mental, physical, spiritual, or social well-being becomes comprised. You can be overworked by your management or for self-imposed reasons. When one or more of these aspects of your life has become severely damaged, your performance decreases, and you feel negative emotions toward your job or aspects of your job duties.

No longer enjoying coding is much different. Like anything else, people change over time, and their preferences change. Some people stop enjoying coding because it's no longer challenging, or they are tired of repeatedly solving the same problems. Some people stop enjoying coding altogether just because that's how they are now.

I would suggest some introspection and soul searching. Ask yourself the question, who am I today? What do I care about today? Am I burnt out? Which aspects of my life have become damaged due to burnout?

Good luck. I hope everything turns out well.

I think there are more people, so there are many more problems. Policing, downvoting, and removing low-value content is generally done by a small number of people. The number of issues has increased faster than the number of people helping to solve them. Dang does excellent work, but it takes a certain percentage of the community to keep things in check.
