I agree that power shortage is real, but what PM Modi is trying to achieve is spreading electricity to all parts of India.There are still millions in India without access to power, so the scheme is about giving them an electricity connection.

It remains to be seen where the power to 'electrify' all households come from and who'll actually foot the bill for the 'free' connections and the lifetime free electricity.'

I don't think the later part of this statement is true, govt is only providing free connection not free electricity.

Also, India is 3rd largest producer of power after China and USA, however it stands 105 when it comes to per capita consumption. The problem in India is not power supply, its the transmission, India hasn't invested much on transmission lines, as a result its paying the price now.

There is so much talk about SPYW and its evil implications. If google just adds a new tab , saying social search , wont that solve the problems. Hey, it is a good site. When I typed Python I did get some good results.But when I typed Java ,I got results but all of them are links from Amazon. There are many free resources for learning java, it'd be better if u link them up :) And for node.js , nothing came up , try linking some books, screencasts and podcasts.

One thing Google can do instead of a total blackout is a black background google . Instead of its white zen background, if they go total black , people would be interested why this change and will read why google did this. Blocking will only make people go for another search engine.

Yes, Even I agree with you. IT is a no . Almost all of us know about SOPA/PIPA . Blocking HN will only hinder us in getting the news , many submit interesting articles that take a stance on SOPA that only help us. Instead start telling your friends and colleagues who are not tech savvy , how this will affect their lives. Thats what I have been doing .

I'd say C just like many others did.It helps you to know the programming concepts, and what happens behind the scenes w/o too much stuff. If you start with Python (though i love Python) , things get done , but you don't feel like working on complex languages. And as C++ is the starting lang at uni , basics of C would really help.

I'd call and say 'Fuck you Reliance'!! And I'd just switch my ISP , there are people waiting to give you a internet connection. Just because they have power doesnt mean they can misuse it. And I'm sure this blockade won't last long.

Start from the scratch, its ok.

Create simple html page for a login. Once you finish html , add some css to it . Try linking with a backend. Make sure you do these small things properly , not just thinking its too easy. The things like this will help you with confidence, once you finish up with your site , add more functionality to it . Use JavaScript , make your page dynamic. Try using javascript to just make small things. Once you are fully done with these go in for python/ruby.There are really good tutorials out there.Implement a small thing and post it here . I'm sure people will appreciate it. That day you'll get back your confidence , till then try lurking less into HN . Good Luck man, I'm sure you'll get back to us with your comeback story :)

Why does Google/Facebook have to de-index? Its their site and they have right to do whatever they want. If Chanel has issues with counterfeits , they have to deal with that themselves ,petition with ICANN but not asking Google to de-index. I dont get why these people take everything for granted and think as if Google is doing some public service.
