"they spun out a brand new intelligence agency, classified its very existence, and spun out operations on that side for years before CBO caught on." - Do you have any details on this? Super interested in this.
“ factor. People had babies when they didn't have fresh food, running water, or even homes. Certainly far worse lives than we have today.”
And cheap, reliable, birth control.
Thats enough to put a fully loaded Abrahams tank (with crew) into orbit…
Matt is such an interesting character; he once had a foot issue that he fixed with a wooden insole.
Fun fact about Matt, he built a great compression algo as well.
What if that is part of my religion?
I'd like to second the request to be able to manually set your max heart rate. I do a lot of zone two training, but my max heart rate is much higher than the allowable calculations.
I wonder if this explains why Prometheus Fuels decided to do methane…
I still don't understand why ore dug up out of the ground and made into steel is more effected by this than this steel. (Edit, made into steel, not iron)
The real question here for the author is: What are the three banks that you now use? We use high availability and redundancy for everything else, why not business?
A quick search shows that it's typically 20-30%. 2% sounds extremely exciting then!
"for a few dollars per pound" - Thank you. I hadn't realized their goals were that ambitious.
Anyone know of folks being able to grow any varieties in Manatee County Florida? I've spent a bit of time looking for varieties but everyone seems to indicate it's too hot.
These are lies; they keep changing the basket of goods to not reflect the reality of what's included. FTFA: "Excluding food and energy"
Q,W,E < No need for mouse. First card in Welcome to Munkle Deck.
Yea, it's always bugged us that we learn the way folks did hundreds of years ago.
Which is why we built https://www.munkle.it the way we did and focused on speed of review.
I used to not like the feeling that spaced repetition did (it's always in that slightly hard stage) but apparently that's what helps you remember.
Not looking right now; but yea, I'll only consider remote jobs for now on.
I'm a Florida native and have paced at Badwater. I think it was around 110F when we were in furnace creek in 2015; it was like being in a convection oven with the wind blowing. I can't fathom another 10 degrees while the sun is gone.
Interesting adaptation - Ultramarathoners can adapt to have very high potassium levels. I remember participating in a study with Dr. Stephen Hammer from Indian River State College where we did blood draws, resting heart rates pre and post ultras and they were joking about how high runner's potassium levels were.
I have a weird set of skills that I've grown from just doing things that are interesting and fun.
https://www.munkle.it - Think Anki, but optimized for speed, and will be focused on content creators. First sale this month (>$500_ from manual outreach to a big content creator Individual purchases will be turned on eventually, but we're not focused on that right now. This is a labor of love as through college and 20+ professional certifications I wanted something faster and easier than what was available.
https://www.skullsplitterdice.com - I spend around 4 hours a week on this, but I used to do this full time. Currently it runs high four to low five figures 100% organically, but can easily do more if I ran ads. It 100% wouldn't be worth my time if I weren't using it to teach my kids things like customer service, product design, how to make content valuable to people so you get search traffic, single piece flow, etc.
It's also cool because I can geek out on a new thing in the area and apply it to something to see if I make any money on it or just have fun making art. Things I've done in the past is includes making a book for the game these are used for, a "choose your own adventure" style Facebook messenger adventure linked from hidden inserts in products, and working with visual and voice over artists to make stories around different products. My latest was using midjourney to create a character that I animated to say a script talking about a product.
Did I make money from that? No, was I entertained? Heck yes.
I came here to say that, based on my experience, his RPM is really low, but then he points out that he gets lots of views from India. We get around $4, for a niche, but primarily English speaking niche.
It makes me see now more why Mr. Beast is getting his content translated....
This wiki article provides good clarity, especially the "obstacle negotiation" part.
Yea, either direct (person with a rifle) or indirect (artillery/mortars). Ultimately obstacles slow, not prevent.
Former infantry here - One of the things that was drilled into my head, obstacles should always be covered by fire to deter these sorts of things. If you can't cover it by fire, then maybe it's not worth putting on obstacle on.
I made my own version of this my my dice company a while back on Facebook messenger (linked to our company site). It was great to see the inserts we did with the product getting used and people going on adventures linked to the different sets. I don't know that it actually drove any sales, but it was a labor of love that I still remember fondly.
Spent a fair bit of time exploring this space as part of a design thinking class in 2020. We talked to a LOT of people from all over the globe about it.
No app really seems to do it PERFECTLY, and it's a complicated space because of the variability. We looked at many of the apps listed here and they all have pro's and cons. These pros and cons seem to align largely the personas we discovered during our process. IIRC the stickiest users seemed to be athletes or folks on highly restrictive diets.
The best we could figure out is a quiz on what ingredients remained before generating a grocery list.
There are three types of traffic: Paid, Earned, Owned.
Paid - PPC and the like
Earned - Press, News Coverage, etc. Basically, causing a way to get yourself in the news cycle
Owned - Email is the best example. You, for the most part, control this and it's the easiest way to control your future. By getting newsletters people begin to know, like, and trust you and become more likely to buy.
Four things work for me. Understanding how to influence emotions, anchors, sleep, and exercise.
One of the things that helped me address this when I was burnt out ~10 years ago was a book called Emotional Equations; it's not perfect, but the frame of reference in a math like state helped me identify what to DO when I felt a certain way.
The other thing I do is set an "anchor" when I have a "peak" experience. Winning something. An awesome run, whatever. I read a book about an elite ultra runner and he'd blink hard three times when he had a peak experience. I make a first a certain way that's not as obvious, but anything can help. If you've seen Seinfeld, it's basically Serenity Now, but effective for me.
Some of the top performance atheletes say that sleep is their secret weapon. I use a light clock to wake up instead of a noise alarm clock, and seem to wake in a gentler state.
Finally, good sleep is predicated on actually being able to sleep. Exercise helps here. It also allows me to mull complex things without the ability to immediately take action, which seems to be useful.
I hope this helps!
Facebook and Instagram are dying, so people are putting those things there.
I an not, but my internal customers are all SCs/SEs. Ive worked with them in some capacity or another for more than a decade.
While I used to see the technical path to SE almost 100% of the time, things seem to have changed in the last five years or so and we are seeing more early in career folks, some straight out of college or military.
If youre interested in this path the presales collective might be a good place to learn more (I’m not affiliated) about being an SE.
I’m on mobile at the moment so cant be super thorough in my response, but you can email me at my username minus the numbers at gmail if a conversation might help.
