Advertisers shouldn't know what I like, they should only know that a certain device with a certain ID likes X,Y topics.

That is in fact what advertisers know. It’s the aggregators that know who you are, not the advertisers.

thought this would be useless griping of sonos that has existed for years now. no, this is new and valuable information. glad i got rid of sonos long ago.

they'd have to give them their FCM credentials, which is a no-no.

trivially addressed via a proxy, which you’d want anyway to properly monetize it

muy interensante.

we often theorize about / present a threat model of an insider becoming malicious in exactly this way. rare that we hear of it actually occurring.

the number used in such threat modeling scenarios is typically $1MM. maybe we need to up that to $4.5MM. (per TFA)

note the simplification in the headline: the $1MM was merely the insider’s share, not the proposed ransomware amount.

Mass Exodus of SF 6 years ago

It should be noted that San Francisco had an unusually low inventory relative to other large cities prior to the pandemic. Historically, the ratio of homes for sale relative to total housing has been a quarter of what New York's was.

the article is totally about percentages. 1->2 = 100%. poor framing, for clicks, if you ask me.

Cardboard theft 6 years ago

what is wrong? it costs money to pick up anything. equipment fuel salaries workman’s comp etc. thieves don’t have such costs.

It's recommended (and much easier) to share access to a folder instead of individual files.

It’s not. folders don’t actually exist in google drive. files are shared individually. there’s a very complex interaction between imaginary folder ACLs and file ACLs. if you depend on the folders as being hierarchical (which they aren’t), this will bite you through unexpected leftover sharing.

The exceptionally stupidly names Shared drives (used to be called Team Drives) fix this.

Otherwise, ‘gam’ is the best tool out there for managing this.

Some of the paid tools are like VPNs. you end up giving full access to the tool developer. be very careful if you go with a paid tool vs ‘gam’.

clunky and annoying compared to what? they are the best i’ve seen and quite good. if there’s something better please share. i would love to know about it.

comments in spreadsheets stink but everything else is pretty great. ok one more flaw. you can’t unassigned a task from yourself. you can only reassign to someone else or mark it done (which clears the comment thread).

it’s almost zero. i am forced to replace a credit card due to theft about every 3 years. it’s not a hassle at all.

in fact you are forced to replace your card just due to expiry every 1-4 years depending on issuer.
