Ah yes, I've had similar experiences actually. Also the variant where I ask it to provide an alternate solution/answer to the one it gave, where it than proceeds to basically regurgitate its previous answer with slight stylistic (i.e. maintaining content parity) modifications.

Interesting tool, especially the statistics relating to the chances of dying within 1 or 10 years are quite confronting. Memento Mori.

It's statistically significant because there is a difference in outcome between the group receiving treatment and the one that did not which could not be attributed to chance alone, but the difference isn't clinically significant because it was a very small difference (in statistics, this is sometimes also referred to as the _effect size_)

Thanks, we really need to bring a bit of balance and data to this topic like this. The hype is certainly real, while the data so far aren't backing this up.

I'm afraid that the public interest in legalisation of psychedelics, motivated by positive experiences in recreational use, leads to a skewed narrative around their health benefits, as a means to open the door for their gradual acceptance and legalisation. This happened to marijuana as well, where health benefits of marijuana were grossly exaggerated to open the door to its legalisation, with medical marijuana as a segway. Marijuana can be harmful and abused, so even though I'm all for legalisation, people should have a balanced view of the benefits and risks to make more informed decisions. Luckily the risk and abuse profile of psychedelics is (much) lower than that of marijuana.

I think, as a first question to be answered prior to this one, the word "how" should be removed from this sentence.

Well, that seems a downright wrong way of assessing their "personal" footprint, don't you think?

My primary concern with these are: what will it mean in a possible future to know your risk profile, and your ability to get/maintain health insurance, also without having to pay premiums. I live in the Netherlands, so probably not too much, but US could be different, and who knows what the future holds. Anyway, this makes me less/not want to take them...

We recently switched to Jax to boost performance as we scale up our algorithmic core. The nice thing is that it presents only a minor jump in capabilities to get developers working with it, if they have prior exposure to numpy ofcourse. Quite nice :)

They let participants solve the knapsack problem under the influence of common ADHD meds like ritalin, dexamphetamine, modafinil.

Interesting results were observed. Participants who performed below average while on placebo tended to improve on the task when on one of the drugs. Those that performed above average tended to have decreased performance on the task.

I believe that EVs on average are associated with higher particulate matter "emissions". Noowadays the majority of PM comes from the friction/erosion of tires on the road (as combustion soot gets filtered out due to regulations). Since EVs are typically much heavier due to their batteries, their tires give of more PM per km driven.

Although not unthinkable, more likely, consider the effect of mental health, socioeconomic background, momentary stress levels, education level, etc that can influence both eating habits and cognitive abilities...

I'm not saying their hypothesis isn't plausible, their data just doesn't get us an inch closer to confirming it...

From what I understand from TFA this study was merely observational in nature and did not involve any blind randomized interventions of eating habits to probe the effect on insulin resistance and cognitive capabilities. Yet another correlation-not-causation study in a field already littered with conflicting data....

Good to see that technological applications of AI for the mass surveillance of EU citizens will be heavily regulated/banned:

"MEPs substantially amended the list to include bans on intrusive and discriminatory uses of AI systems such as:

    “Real-time” remote biometric identification systems in publicly accessible spaces;
    “Post” remote biometric identification systems, with the only exception of law enforcement for the prosecution of serious crimes and only after judicial authorization;

    Predictive policing systems (based on profiling, location or past criminal behaviour);

Also interesting to see that disclosure of copyrighted data used for training of LLMs will likely be required:

"Generative foundation models, like GPT, would have to comply with additional transparency requirements, like disclosing that the content was generated by AI, designing the model to prevent it from generating illegal content and publishing summaries of copyrighted data used for training."
