They've been forcing functions for large corporations to move off legacy incumbents who can't keep up and to leverage startup tech across all areas of their business and IT infrastructure.

Couldn't agree more. What separates an "idea person" from a potential true entrepreneur, is that in order to find a technical co-founder they would begin doing everything else to make their product a reality. Things from having a detailed idea of how their product should work, to preparing mockups and wireframes, to writing website/app copy, etc that you can hand off to your developer and say "Build this"

When I was in high school with plenty of time on my hands I turned my hobby of playing Everquest into a pretty lucrative business (especially for a 17yr old). I found it amazing what people would pay for items to help advance their characters, especially those who were older and had limited time, and thus wanted to minimize time-sinks.

Definitely agree, would be cool to know about this and similar events. For those of us in NYC, there are some solid Penn tech and VC groups on Meetup worth checking out.

if you're prepping for a meeting with such an influential person (regardless of your thoughts about him, his opinion carries weight in tech circles) wouldn't you triple check everything and make sure it's ready to go so you don't blow your one big shot? in that situation people should be prepared and have a backup device ready with the app loaded to shove in his face instead so he could still mes around with it

Check out Social Passport (www.socialpassport.net) as it will be totally up your alley. For consumers it creates a QR code which stores all of your social networking information for instant scanning to Like, Tweet, or Checkin somewhere, and then also serves as a digital loyalty card and e-coupon. Merchants incentivize users to get their Social Passports scanned through discounts, contests, and giveaways, and in return send a customized message to a user's entire social network.

Check out Social Passport (www.socialpassport.net) which just won Startup Showcase at the Web2.0 Expo in NYC a couple weeks ago. It has features such as digital loyalty cards like Punchd, but also enables a store owner to make coupons at whatever discount they'd like so it competes with Groupon in that sense because it is paperless + no minimum discount (like 50% off that Groupon/LivingSocial/etc typically require) + no commission (again, the big guys charged 50% historically). It also, most importantly, serves as a social CRM for brick and mortar stores because it leverages a visitor's social network to turn marketing to them to marketing to all of their friends through scanning their Social Passport.

Social Passport enables businesses to communicate their products/services to each visitor’s social network in real time. Their motto is “market to one, market to many” and Social Passport enables businesses to market to thousands of people instantly. It can be used via Dynamic QR, Reverse QR, and NFC.

For users, Social Passport combines all of your social networks, and also serves as a way to store digital loyalty cards and e-coupons. Users get rewarded by retailers via coupons, free gifts, and other promos.

I still use WinXP - I'm partly change averse, and partly find some things in Win7 (which I have on my laptop) more clunky than WinXP.

I happen to be in windows explorer a lot between everything I'm up to, and all of these features linked look terrific and will make me much more productive. So count me in as excited for a new Windows launch for the first time in a while.

Glen it basically comes down to a genre by genre breakdown I think. If you're looking for a comedy which should inherently have high rewatchability, if any are rated as low then I can assume I should avoid them. For example, in college my buddies and I alternated watching 40 Year Old Virgin and Grandma's Boy for an entire semester. Neither would have the best quality ratings, but they were fun and sure had high rewatchability.

Now take the other end of the spectrum of film like Black Swan or even some slower paced films. I love 2001 A Space Odyssey but am not rushing to rewatch soon (though it has top quality) because it is way too slooow for me. Or take some dramas that while interesting on first glance don't really merit another watch.

Basically I think you should start with a top down approach by genre, and if something like comedy then the dominant factor is rewatchability but then for others it may be "quality" (which itself could be subdivided further into cinematographic elements for an auteur film, the musical score for a certain type, etc). But I feel like maybe you end up going down a rabbit's hole, so perhaps I'm asking more questions than I'm answering.

Ah thanks for sharing. I was sent that the other day too and was wondering what was going on. Luckily I was on my phone and didn't input any information on the phishing page.

I just signed up and have some programming knowledge but practically no database knowledge. From reading the description and looking at the syllabus, I don't think any coding knowledge is required. I do think though that this is critical for learning to code because you're always going to be dealing with db's in some form or another, so I'm excited.

Just tested it out and it's pretty cool. Obviously not a be all end all, but tested out some situations I'm in and some which my friends are in, and it gets pretty close for my examples of teams of 2-4.
