Once again, this isn't about banning anything. This is about productive conversation. A value which makes HN unique out of all the internet communities.

What the commenter was doing was insinuating a conclusion based upon a straw man, so as not to be scrutinised for the underlying conclusion.

This isn't about surpressing free speech. It's about basic communication and debate.

Perhaps for recreational use, yes. But I would assume that humans will be a hinderance on the road system and would far increase the possible accidents. Self driving vehicles will be able to 'cluster' and travel, literally, as fast as they can. I don't see any human keeping up with that.

Self driving vehicles will not show up overnight. The road to 100% penetration will be a long one, with many intermediate steps. I'd say as low as ~20 but as high as 75 year time frame.

Not a big multiple for a supposed growing company. Phil Libin said it takes on average of 40ish months to convert a free to paid user, that's harsh.

A more efficient government catering to the needs of the citizens is a good thing for everybody. Only competition can ensure that.

Competition is good. We need _more_ competition between governments, not a cartel. If a government is more efficient and can lower taxes, than others are incentivised to be competitive and more efficient as well, or risk losing their revenue sources to other more efficient states.

You misunderstand the word 'choice'. You have a choice to go on sites with Google Analytics, you are not being coerced into using their products. You have a choice to not give out your number to those whom have Android phones, you have a choice not to use Facebook. You have a lot of choice, you are just choosing not to use the alternatives. Whereas Google and Apple are being threatened by force to hand over data, they do not have a choice.

On your last point, you want the same people who demand and coerce data from Google and Apple, also be the same people who make the rules for Google and Apple?

You have a choice to use their services, don't use Facbeook, don't use Google. They do not have a choice to hand over data.

Better solution, don't allow governments to spy in the first place. Facebook and Google don't want to give up data, they are effectively being coerced into handing over data.
