I have found myself jumping from technology to technology, which is something I'm trying to do less of, for example; I started a project in Python then when it was pretty much finished started to re-write in Java for numerous reasons (learning java being the key driver).

Thanks for advice! I'll admit I definitely need to refine my engineering skills. Using proper exceptions and writing better methods are something I have been trying to improve.

Do you think it's intrusive to find hiring managers on let's say LinkedIn and send them my resume/letter that way?

Thanks. It's funny, I actually started all of this NOT using Git. I wasn't until I was about 3 months into the Python Geocoder I mentioned about did i start to use Git!

Thanks for the help! I definitely was confusing VPN with Shared Private Networking and VPC. Just started to read up on the AWS VPC and this is exactly was I needed!

So my goal was to take this code I created in Python, and turn it into a REST engine [Probably via Flask]. The Database Server is running PostgreSQL.

I would like to create an application server that simply takes user input, call the REST engine and, returns the results in a "pretty" manor.

I am trying to figure out how to deploy this all in the best way, in a hosted envionment. I suppose i can rephrase: what is the best [and simplest] way to host a 3 tiered app?

Thank you for the tip- still a bit confused (and maybe mixing up terms). If I wanted to keep the DB and App server on separate servers, would i leave them out in the open or house them in a private network?

I think just building something you think is interesting or fun.

A few months ago, I started to learn Python via the tutorials. After a while, I was able to use it at work for some basic things such as file parsing. What really got me to learn alot was when I started to write a geocoding application in Py. Although it isn't quite done yet, I have learned so much taking on the challenge.

I think I may go the business bank account route though, it seems to complicate things less...and hey maybe my service will be a success : )

Thanks for the advice! When I file for DBA, lets say "cool internet company", is it best to get the business bank account, EIN, etc? Or can I just skip this step?

I have been using a dell XPS 13 (got it on a deal for $500) and currently dual boot Ubuntu and Windows 10 Preview. I highly recommend the XPS 13 and you can even buy it will Ubuntu pre-installed.

So when would be a good time to start using git - perhaps when the project is deployed into beta?

While I understand the site has to support millions of users, tons of data, etc., is this a normal cost for building such a site?

I'm in a similar boat - for work I mostly use MSSQL/.net. For side projects I have been using Python/Flask which have not only been a blast to use but seem to be very flexible.
