Amazing! When I bought my last car, I ensured there were physical buttons for everything I regularly use. While driving, most things happen without much thinking, and touch screens feel like the antithesis of that idea. I recently had to drive a car with a touch screen for, e.g. AC and radio control. I failed miserably to turn off the radio for 3 hours on the highway. I usually expect these things to be intuitive enough to do without reading the manual of a car.

Fast.ai states on its website: "Being cool is about being exclusive, and that's the opposite of what we want. We want to make deep learning as accessible as possible." We appreciate this goal as we are making federated learning accessible for everyone. In this blog post, we share how to use fastai with Flower.

I was an early paying Kagi user but started using !g more and more over the last few month. I am not sure what they changed. Recently I decided to switch my default search back to Google as basically in 90% of all search queries I found the result I searched for on Google instead of Kagi.

Flower 1.2 4 years ago

We just released Flower 1.2

We would like to give our special thanks to all the contributors who made the new version of Flower possible (in git shortlog order): Adam Narozniak, Charles Beauville, Edoardo, L. Jiang, Ragy, dannymcy

The new release is packed with improvements and new features: new Flower Baseline (FedAvg MNIST), improved GPU support in simulations, improved GPU support in Jupyter Notebook tutorials, optional telemetry, new (experimental) Driver API, new Federated Analytics with Pandas example, new strategies (Krum and MultiKrum), updated C++ example, a huge list of general improvements, and updated documentation. And of course: no incompatible changes

For more information, be sure to check our new blog post: https://flower.dev/blog/2023-01-13-announcing-flower-1.2

I am struggling hard to book Microsoft 365 as I need Powerpoint for a single occasion and get reminded on every corner why I switched to Google + Apple a long time back.

Waiting lists in chats? Seriously? I am not supposed to loose focus of the chat window? Holy cow.

Years ago I loved mandrill. After they got acquired by Mailchimp it became toast. The user experience went downhill and wasn't comparable to products like Postmark at all. I fear Postmark will go down the same road now. Many great products unfortunately become quite bad after acquisitions. I hope ActiveCampaign is a better new owner than most.

We will discover some new "dark quantum thingy" energy source which some scientist will want to use to create super cheap energy. Unfortunately because of the third world war someone will first build a bomb. Handheld sized enough to destroy any major city. Someone will than say: I have become death... and after we have destroyed half of the world we will rise from the ashes and fly to the stars. Afterwards we create an organization called The Federation!

Yes indeed. Using federated learning with Flower makes training over multiple disconnected partitions possible. Additionally there are privacy enhancing techniques such as differential privacy but they come with a cost and are not always nesesecary.

You can train models over multiple silos, devices, users and many other kind of partitioning where for some reason you can't aggregate the dataset centrally.

To quote from Wikipedia:

``` Federated learning (also known as collaborative learning) is a machine learning technique that trains an algorithm across multiple decentralized edge devices or servers holding local data samples, without exchanging them. ```
basically you can train ML models collaboratively without ever seeing the other datasets. One example would be multiple hospitals training models to detect breast cancer without the need to exchange the data samples.
Another example is how Google trains models for the keyboard on Android. See here: https://ai.googleblog.com/2017/04/federated-learning-collabo...
Government lends you up to ~880€ a month interest free if your parents earn less than 35k€ and gradually less until 75k€ parent household income. After university you have 5 years time until loan payments starts. Total payback is capped at 10k even if you have received more than that. If you can pay it back in full with one payment you only pay ~7.3k.
With that money people are usually able to get an apartment or at least a room in a shared apartment and pay for food and books.
