It doesn't make sense, and Ukraine has already stated that they don't agree to any ceasefire they don't personally negotiate. Just yesterday American leadership tried tricking them into signing a deal after levying a (quickly retracted) threat: https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/us-russia-set-begin-high-sta...

Only Ukraine can sue for peace, and they've stated quite openly that they will not give Russia the land they occupy. Trump's admin can negotiate whatever they want behind closed doors, but Ukrainian leadership has no obligation to listen. Trump doesn't have the leverage he would like with NATO starting to well up the bases of European support.

Admittedly, it will be really funny watching businesses attempt "mask off" schizo marketing maneuvers over the next 4 years. Gamestop is really showing everyone the optimism and long-term hope the games industry is feeling right now...

FWIW, even if the US succeeds in abolishing USAID that will only allow more harmful analogues like the IMF to step in. The diplomatic grease oftentimes exists to prevent diplomatic chafing. Wipe that away and you're left with a whole lot of pain and bleeding.

When America pulls the vig from countries that need it, they don't turn around and correct their course. We've been trying to strongarm Pakistan to do the right thing for 4 decades now, and all we've gotten in return is an accelerated nuclear focus and an experimental ICBM program. If we let these "sins of the father" situations fester, then they turn around to China or Russia for help instead. American leadership simply doesn't realize the value of globalism right now.

We started using it when Jack who founded Twitter, started bluesky, promoted nostr started using it

Jack Dorsey is certifiably insane. His obsession with cryptocurrency is a warning to anyone that throws away success to live as a crypto maxi. You will lose the only things that matter to you in life, your business will be taken away from you by shareholders if you own one. Your control will be hated by users that accuse you of trying to ruin the internet with NFT profile pictures and crypto tickers. Many users outright left as a consequence, others would leave after the takeover. But Dorsey set the stage for the enshittification of Twitter, and anyone that's forgotten that should face the music.

Web5, no matter who utters it, is a phrase that means nothing. A person walking on the street would not be able to define it for you. Me, a programmer, cannot define it for you or even explain what it looks like. It is a marketing term as applied to Free Software, which will alienate Free Software users and disgust/confuse common people. If you cannot find a better phrase to describe your philosophy then people will forever associate you with the myriad grifters that shared your "Web(n)" branding.

By that token, we might label all Israeli "citizens" as combatants due to their mandatory conscription law.

Of course, that's a facetious argument that sane people don't make. But here we are, trying to use that logic to demonize people who resist colonial genocide.

*shrug* golden rule and all that

I agree that reform is needed. That is not what the parent was advocating for, and my comment was a response to the nonsense logic behind their irate desire to see the American government suffer.

You will be disappointed if you demand that federal employees reciprocate the consequences that Silicon Valley workers face. They have job security for much different reasons than a SpaceX or FAANG employee.

I know so many brilliant people in tech who were hung out to dry

Politicians didn't lay off those people, businesses did. If you think they need to be punished, then you boycott them or regulate their behavior. You're taking vengeance on the wrong people while letting the real perpetrator get away.

Who needs to get a girl pregnant, when you can jack off twice a day to a unique body every day for the next decade?

Buddy, here's the straight dope. If you're mad that teenage pregnancies are going down on average, you literally lack the basic empathy required to comment on the internet. Log off, you are just too unintelligent to contribute to this discussion.

If you're not trolling then I am seriously worried that you are autistic or mentally disabled and may not know it. This is outrageous behavior and I've seen you repeat this psychopathic bullshit for years now. Do you live in the real world? Do you have healthy relationships with family members or friends that share these ridiculous principles with you? It defies normalcy.

Calling Jack Dorsey the real Satoshi is like calling Forrest Gump the real Einstein. It really does not take a very smart person to poke holes in this little theory.

I remember 2 years ago, part of HN was dead-to-rights convinced Elon wrote the Bitcoin source code because he claimed to know C++. People will find whatever evidence they can to support these largest-common-denominator theories.

You do not have the right to automatically enroll them into a new subscription model AFTER they have made a permanent license purchase.

Have you read the EULA and TOS they made you sign? Very often companies do reserve the right to automatically enroll you in a new equivalent service after voiding your lifetime license.

This is ultimately one of those things you just have to prepare for whenever relying on paid software.

The US side at the Munich Security Conference demanded that Ukraine immediately agree to their version of the mineral resources deal in exchange for aid, otherwise, they threatened to prevent a meeting with US Vice President JD Vance. However, the pressure stopped after Kyiv refused, and the meeting took place anyway.

This is pathetic. You cannot strong-arm an ally with diplomacy, and evidently America realized that after trying to take something off the table that America needs more than Ukraine.

Events like this are living proof of why American aid is wasted when we precondition it on political agreement with an extremist administration.

Nvidia doesn't need an OS. They sell hardware, and their hardware receives driver support on Windows, Linux, FreeBSD, and previously, MacOS. If you built and documented an OS for AI-based tasks, Nvidia would probably be the first OEM to merge hardware support.

Linus' comment towards Nvidia was not made from the perspective of a business, either. He was lamenting that their drivers are nonfree and that their desktop support was lazy. Neither of those things matter to 99% of businesses that are using Nvidia hardware for AI compute. Also, both aren't strictly true anymore in 2025 as Nvidia officially supports Wayland now and technically has "Open" drivers.

Which parts are you referring to? The part where you kill a guy with a rock if he looks at your wife funny?

We always lose something when evolving, that's okay. You can keep living in whatever way you want to, as long as it doesn't disrupt the liberty of another person. If you're mad that the world embraced secularity over spiritualism, or that men aren't fist-fighting for resources, blame yourself for not modernizing. Without any serious examples, your comment basically just reads like a trad dogwhistle.

Scott Adams' has been posting deranged shit on Twitter for years now. His credibility as a social commentator is exhausted, and if you don't know that then you're going to be sent on some pretty moronic alt-right snipe chases at his behest.

"Tongue in cheek" is an idiom

Your "joke" is 6 paragraphs long. Go get a hobby or a girlfriend or a job or something, this is not a healthy expression of irony or frustration with the government. Repeat this shit in another thread or comment and you'll be run out of this site on a rail.

But the pitchfork-wielding peasants are cheering Saint Trump’s having given Saint Elon root access to the Imperial Mainframe.

Literally where? I have yet to see a single non-politician support this behavior. Everyone I talk to is worried about Musk's track record with personal information, his chronic lying and the potential anticompetitive advantages of his federal ascension.

This entire post is a pretty delusional tirade but this takes the cake. If it was a populist decision then Congress would have voted on it... but they didn't, even with a Republican majority. Trump's behavior is so plainly illegal he can't trust his own fucking party to support him.
