My team is entirely remote and we do written standups/sitdowns. This adds some flexibility to your day which helps given that we are spread across many timezones. At the end of the week we have a demo day via google hangout where we can show off work that we have done or something cool we learned.

I suspect that if you can't describe the design then it is not a fully formed idea. Communication often serves as a forcing function. You fill in all the fuzzy areas your mind was glossing over. Transmitting the feeling would help the other person understand the context, but all the little decisions that happen when making something "real" would still need to be made by someone.

This is not accurate. I was able to see the picture, name, and a partially censored email address for several contacts. I have no facebook account and I am certain none of those contacts have ever accessed the internet from this IP.

I think this is exactly right. It is easy to measure 'time in chair', but that isn't a metric of productivity. Productivity is harder to measure so 'time in chair' is often the substitute.

When you work remotely you don't have 'time in chair' as a proxy for productivity so you have no choice but to prove yourself through your output.

When in an office you can stare at the wall all day and have it considered "work".

Working remotely isn't for everyone. Some people do not have the self-discipline. Don't allow those people to work remotely or don't hire them at all.

There are other benefits to working in the same meat-space: culture, easy collaboration, etc. I don't believe pressure to produce results is one of them. I also think that most of those advantages are disappearing or gone with chat, email, skype, google hangouts, and other collaboration solutions.

For me, Skiena had the added bonus of being an enjoyable read which isn't always the case for algorithm books. I highly recommend it.

I am not sure if the app is using the right dictionary or if it is broken in Chrome. I used the string "AARGHQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQQ" to run a search and it returned no results. "aargh" is in the Letterpress dictionary.

I wrote a quick Python script last week that took the board position and returned the unplayed word with the highest point values (with a winning move being worth the max value). I thought about expanding it to look ahead, but it wasn't needed to beat human opponents.

The coup de grace would be to bundle it all up as an app that pulled from the camera roll and spat out a move.

We don't currently have the rights to stream full songs, but it is something we would love to be able to do for our users. We would need to find a way to make business model work for us.

You do have one other option (as alex_c pointed out our message on this was unclear). You can listen to the full playlist with your music collection. If you have the software installed then we can match the playlist to your collection.

We are working on cleaning up the design. Is it too busy visually or is it more information overload?

Yeah the stock photo is probably a bit too market-y, will work on replacing with solid content.

You are able to add any songs you don't own to your shopping cart for purchase. The downloadable software not only allows you to upload and share you itunes playlist, but it also allows us to provide you with purchase protection so you don't buy music you already own. The software also syncs playlists from the website with itunes or windows media player.

I am definitely hoping that Facebook and Twitter turn into viral loops.
