As someone who works in this industry and has access to commercial HDMI debugging equipment, I can’t agree more.

I will use Harmony for my home setup until it no longer functions.

The horrors I have seen related to CEC and ARC are something else.

Almost everything you have written here can also describe Canada. There is an Australian YouTuber named Chris Kohler who does really funny little shorts describing things happening in the Aussie economy and it’s jarring how often they apply directly to Canada also.

I'm not much of a MacOS fan, but his laptop is the best laptop I've ever owned. I got the 8GB/256GB version and it was worth the price because my kid still uses it every day. The 720p webcam is fantastic quality. The speakers are the best I've ever had in a laptop.

We just replaced the battery with a new one from iFixit and it's like a brand new machine.

The only downside i

I have some Prana pants that I really like, but don't wear too often. Recently someone asked me where I got them and I said, "hmm maybe 5 years ago at MEC." A month later I came across a picture of me wearing those same pants on a fishing trip 16 years ago.

Some weeks would go by and I would just check n-gate to see what happened on HN.

I am using the exact same model. Ryzen 5600G w/32GB and an Nvidia P40 w/24GB VRAM

20/33 layers offloaded to GPU, 4K context. Uses 25GB system RAM and all 24GB VRAM. 5-7 tokens per second.

The Mediaroom IPTV platform which DT is probably using has millions of deployed STBs still running WinCE 5.0.

My use case for Pocket is completely different from the author’s.

I use it every day to get web content onto a Kobo ereader. It strips ads and often gets stuff behind paywalls.

My family shares the same pocket account and we often end up discussing things that get synced to all the kobos in the house.

This functionality is so useful and seems like a well kept secret. If it went away I’d really be upset.

The gambling aspect has become part of NHL hockey broadcasts now in Canada. On HNIC on a Saturday night, I watched Ron Maclean hand over the broadcast to some guy from a gambling company for a ~10 second segment on the current odds of each team winning. It wasn't like cutting to a commercial break where there's a clear separation between the broadcast and the advertiser.

It's terrible.

There's stories popping up in the UK, US and Canada recently about this vulnerability.

From a comment in the reddit thread below:

"Thieves are gaining access to the left headlight computer sub-assembly by peeling back the plastic splash guard, where they can stick a couple of pins into the CAN_H and CAN_L wires in the wiring harness plug."

Yes, spending time with little kids can be really boring, be present when it counts though. This period of life doesn't last forever so take care of your health and maintain your important relationships with whatever energy you can muster.

Every time I look at pictures of my kids when they were younger I feel a tinge of regret for not being more in the moment.

I switched from Globalstar to Zoleo (Iridium) because Globalstar wasn't reliable enough for use cases like messaging the float plane pilot. I'd often have to wait for certain times of the day to send messages or make calls. This was at about 54 deg lat, so not in the fringes at all.

It may have been my device (older Qualcomm branded phone), but my experience seems consistent with what others report.

On the contrary, I've been very happy with the Zoleo device and service. It's been 100% reliable in all conditions even in the middle of the bush.

I have fixed and replaced control boards in both my Kenmore washing machine and oven. I've had to replace the duck valve in my Kitchenaid fridge (it got plugged and froze up, leaking water onto the floor).

Without online videos, I don't think I could have done a few of the repairs I did. I had to do some soldering to fix my washing machine so I can see how some people wouldn't be able to do these things.

My extended family of 16 which ranges in age from 5 to 85 uses this Matrix instance. We didn't want pictures of our young kids on Whatsapp (Facebook) servers. These young kids and grandparents don't have smartphones so Signal isn't an option. Also, many of us access Matrix on other devices and computers other than phones.

This is how the internet is supposed to be.
