TL;DR Nonsense "study"

A study for real world risks based on a videogame, of all things? Its impossible to directly map the experience of being behind the wheel in real life to a game, and the article doesn't even mention whether it's an actual simulation (like beam.NG), game-like (as in Assetto Corsa), or plain arcade fantasy (GTA, Need for Speed) OBVIOUSLY people are gonna play games in a more fun/different way under the influence They even admit that inhaled usage showed little to no consistency in driving difference Bias disclaimer: I stopped consumption some time back

Although I'd like to read and respond to the reply made by Emre_Ozkan, it is unfortunately [flagged] and [dead]

Quite disappointing whenever I see this type of...of censorship, would this be considered??? I am sure there are many interesting perspectives and this is not the first occurrence of burying comments and/or responses that I have observed as a longtime lurker

Truly intriguing! A core2duo+4GB RAM in 2026?!?!!!

Can you elaborate on your experience? I can't imagine 20tabs being smooth on 8GB with the modern "web" being whst it is today, let alone 4GB! Unless there is only text files and plain HTML in those 20 tabs???

This is a lie: the facts are simply that the systemd users database has gained an optional "date of birth" field, which the desktop environments may use or not as they deem appropriate. Of course there is no "identity verification" or requirements to provide any data, which in any case would not be shared beyond authorized local applications.

I understand this might lack nuance, but this looks like the setting up of a groundwork for an age verification system

I get and agree the point ( that its the families that should be managing access), but how much further are we willing to allow these circus festival clowns called "politicians" to restrict freedom of access to the internet under the guise of "oh noesss we must protecc teh chillren!!"?

All these acts like Stop child abuse exploitation or COPPA or whatever nonsense, Im sure all of us in the hacker news crowd understand and can agree that its just pretend/fictional names to gather public consensus/approv to furtjet lock down the internet

At least on this Materialistic app available on F-Droid, all those comments are flagged and unable to be seen

Its absolutely senseless to take on a position on something when not knowing what's coming from both sides

I'd presume this place to be frequented by those who would also find it similarly foolhardy to be taking a stance on an issue when not all parties are privy to the same objectivity/impartiality (in terms of information and the different sides of the story)

Spotted my kin!

What is it that makes slashed zeroes so nuch more appealing than the other kinds of "zeroes"? Slashed zeroes are definitely much better than those nasty dotted inverse donut zeroes

How does a dot in a zero even make any kinda logical sense? It's like a piece of dough floating in midair in the center of a donut

Dotted zeroes [insert copypasta] bad

I don't even know why I'm so obsessed with the slash in zeroes

The actual argument would be people voting with their wallets and moving away from the Apple ecosystem, but this something impossible at least in the USA due to these bullshit "blue bubbles"

What does this comment mean? Since not particularly well-versed in programming, all I understood was that this project has something that can read data? What is impressive about a tool that can read C++?

Would appreciate if someone can explain, thanks!
