Surrounding yourself with people who are smarter than you is easier if the person doing the hiring is dumb.

We had the same problem. We had a 50% original idea, and our competitor was the rest of the idea that we knew could be better.

We used it as a basis for solving disagreements. Whenever we couldn't agree or decide what to do, we just say "what is our competitor doing?" It isn't about copying per se, it's about keeping momentum and getting past decision problems.

I would pay for Twitter. If enough of my friends did.

Google should seriously invest a little bit of money and pay to have the site design for Matt Cutts look better. Add a custom design (not a template) and maybe say somewhere that he works for Google. I've sent some customers to that site, and they don't take it seriously.

The Beef:

I had a guy start something like this in Rome recently. I reacted so strongly to being touched by a stranger selling stuff that the guy called me names. I guess I'm just not used to personal contact except handshake.

I'm building a web app and have my business model already figured out. I have a free and a paid version of my product and see being in this game for 5+ years, or longer if it is successful.
