UWB is being touted as the best solution for next generation car keys, as all wireless solutions for car keys to date are susceptible to relay attacks (exception being car is online and controlled by an app). With an UWV chip in there, Apple could store your car key credentials and use their phones as a secure key.

I suspect they do this to be able to configure Bluetooth within regional regulations. In US / China you can transmit with up to 20dBm output power at 2.4 GHz, while in much of the world 10 dBm is max.
The news response from supermarket chains where I live is that individually packaged fruit and vegetables helps reduce supply chain food waste.
Makes sense (e.g. one squashed tomato during transport will only waste one package) - no idea if it is true though.
I live in Oslo. Calling it car-free is a stretch.
The city council have done a great deal of improvements - increased frequency of public transport, city bikes, most parking spaces in the inner city are removed (still plenty of private parking garages), paid roadside parking per hour in outer city districts (only residents can park long term) and a $5-$8 toll road around the city. They have also opened up the seaside to the public - you can walk along the sea for from one side of town to the other for hours.
This has definitely made for a much more lively city, but it comes with a hidden cost that is not so easily visible - gentrification.
The lively city with its hundreds of new bars and restaurants are attracting young, educated people, while the difficulties of owning a car drives away the families that need their car to visit their grandparents, go to IKEA, drive to kindergarten on the other side of town etc. Sure, it's possible to use public transport, but everyone who has has small kids know that you do not want to spend an hour to get home with hungry kids.
We (family with two small kids) moved 5 miles out and get the best of both worlds instead. I would never live downtown though.

In Norway the government will pay you 100% for 49 weeks or 80% for 59 weeks with a cutoff at $66k. (Slightly above national average). Most/all tech employers will cover the remaining part of your salary.
They will, but the cost to do so increases by several decades.
A few points from my own experience: - Competitive advantage. Providing open source drivers/stacks will in many cases provide insight into implementation details you do not want competitors to easily understand. Also, complex software stacks (the generic parts) could be recompiled by a competitor into a "free" stack of their own. Closed source provides a barrier for competitors to entering the market by cheating/stealing.
In addition, all silicon have bugs that you don't always want your competitors to know about by seeing the workarounds in SW. They will use that against you when trying to replace your chip in a product.
- Customer support and liability
With limited customer support resources, you don't want to debug your product for a customer without knowing exactly what code is running. This applies both for the end product and the silicon vendor. As an example - what happens if a modified driver bricks the product?
Cadence SKILL, which is heavily influenced by Scheme, is still actively used to extend functionality of the EDA tools. Other languages commonly seen used in TI is Perl, Tcl, C (obviously), assembly and Python.
A major risk in dealing with unofficial brokers instead of going through distributors is a good chance of getting devices that were scrapped in production test due to malfunction or failing on performance parameters.
We have had several customers with issues sourcing this way and not realizing their devices are malfunctioning.
