It doesn’t hide anything. If the price is too high then something is wrong. In your case it’s restraint on supply and in labor the problem is people who don’t know the value of what they have and never put any consideration into making themselves difficult to push around. They jump into precarious financial circumstances, but expensive things and pump out babies and when it comes time to negotiate they have zero leverage. The behavior of the average American is retarded and spoiled. That’s why people from Asia come here and shoot straight to the top — because their parents actually make deliberate decisions to advance their socioeconomic position.

She said she would like to teach critical thinking. How unbelievably rich. The host made the excellent point that in this market, the hardest you will work is determined by how hard people in general are willing to work. The market decides how hard you are expected to work, not your boss or the Illuminati. It’s the same something-for-nothing logic-vacuum that led to communism and the massive corruption that followed.
Plus one. Kids should absolutely be allowed to do certain work. They banned it with literal “save the children” dogma and pictures of children in copper mines and working the looms. Let the fucking kids toss a news paper. That’s such bullshit to outlaw the fucking concept of people working before the age of 16 or whatever.
The only competition that Ben Krasnow has
Heavy is such a good word to describe those things. But I disagree about this house. I think minimalism depends on materials. The wood lap attempts to demonstrate a material but it’s way too clean and it screams “MATERIAL.” In my eyes it’s a bit heavy. The island that’s made to look like a solid block of granite is terrible to me. It causes me to imagine how unpleasant it must be to use a cube of granite for anything. And I don’t think a loud piece of granite is minimalist.
No I literally don’t know. Is it a way to be cooler and more accepted? A way to avoid the stress of a project? What?
I don’t understand what problem this solves
His house is very ugly. I hate it when architects think they are painting an abstract picture with wood and marble. Good architecture feels good to live in — it’s not an accessory or a statement.
The weak point of this article is that they never explain in depth what the laws would do. The liberals do this all the time saying that conservative bills are “anti voter rights” when in reality they just require ID to vote which is standard in many places that are more civilized than the US.
I was a part of a group of people who obtained and took ISRIB a year ago. We made contact with another group from the Baltic’s who had a chemist in their ranks who had already synthesized and taken it, before we took delivery of ours.
The most important thing I learned is that you form a tolerance to it. At least that’s what the experiential effects indicated.
One person took it and developed heart rhythm problems.
Another person took it and became full of energy. Some people reported being much smarter and being able to socialize at a much higher level than before. Some people said they had hyper realistic dreams and compared it to schizophrenia. There were many stories but I can’t remember them all. I’m the end nobody took it long term.
The NMR results made it clear that everyone was taking pure ISRIB and not some adulterant.
One person said he gave it to his grandmother with Alzheimer’s and it made her better but she died shortly afterward. Some people said this is normal and it was a coincidence. We don’t know.
I never took it because right before we had secured a supplier I had a bad reaction to another experimental drug which has given me a permanent injury.
Somehow I prefer the timeline where the earth is blanketed in internet.
I think it’s better when you have to remember to go back and check for replies. Why would you want to entertain a petty argument that you can’t even remember
People don’t get it. The sole purpose of patents and intellectual property is to give a reward function to large capital allocators. Capital is heart and sole of any society, it is what builds skyscrapers, cars, toothbrushes, shopping centers, internet backbones and everything you can think of. If that capital does not have a reward function, it will build the wrong shit. It would be like a cell making the wrong proteins — you don’t want that.
Like everything, it’s only as good as it’s implementation. I think it would be better if a patent was awarded only after a profitable demonstration was built and running maybe with a pre-patent filed beforehand. It’s insane that a guy can sit at his desk and patent things arbitrarily — how is that providing guidance to capital? And I think the patent should withstand ongoing demonstrations of actual implementation.
And also, we need to get rid of arbitrary litigation because that just makes everyone afraid of other peoples patents. It would be easy to get rid of that.
It’s true but you’re skipping over the early golden age that mars will also have. Life is surfing and early golden ages are the waves.
I’m sorry for being so rude. But I disagree. I was there too I guess, i built my own prusa in 2011. I just don’t believe that patents stopped people from designing and building open source 3D printers. The early printers were just brass nozzles with a heat element, thermistor, motors belts and an arduino. There’s no patent roadblocks in there. There is a correlation, however, with the hobby computer revolution of the early 2010s…
This is simply objectively wrong. You think the economy can be driven by volunteers? You think capitol allocated with no reward function will produce anything? And 3D printers went down in price because they became a popular diy hobby not because the patents were freed from the shackles of capitalism you dunce…
I don’t agree with this. I think on an intellectual level almost nobody really cares about that kind of thing. But your body decides to feel bad when you believe others are judging you. You can’t control your body and so I would say that the only rational response is to avoid situations that cause you emotional stress and when your body is making itself experience stress because of the perceived judgement of others, just accept that you can’t change it and try to focus on something else.
It’s funny how people will happily throw themselves into a hopelessly ambitious open source project but turn down a super impactful project that is relatively simple like this one.
But without IP you can’t get capital behind ideas and then everything grinds to a halt. In reality, the consumer is to blame completely. If there was an appetite for engineering teardowns of products (AvE style) or in other words if the consumer were actually discerning then the market would reflect that.
This is such a simple problem. I really can’t believe it. Just give people strong passwords, strong backup passwords and maintain identity verification stations at post offices. If both your password and backup password are compromised, or to settle an identity dispute, just go to the post office and produce irrefutable evidence including biometrics. But if you just remember your password this should almost never be necessary. Am I crazy?
Your contempt is absolutely justified. I went through something similar myself. These people, who have absolutely no voice, are the victims of the virtue signaling, moral crusading army of idiots who are very happy to tell people like us that it’s wrong to want to die or to help someone to die. They sell today for tomorrow. They trade in the suffering of thousands so that they don’t have to confront reality or say something unbecoming. It’s truly infuriating because this results in real and profound suffering. When someone is in need of death, and is writing letters to god for a merciful death, what societal/cultural mechanisms are there to fall on? None! It’s a fucking disgrace and a stain on the human race that such conditions are allowed to go on. Truly on a stain on us.
It just boggles my mind that the moral crusaders scream endlessly about ending the suffering of these people or those people… and yet they do nothing to end the suffering of millions who are right in their back yard and who’s suffering can be ended relatively quickly and easily through very simple legislation, awareness and education. It’s the lowest hanging fruit and yet it goes unpicked.
And there is a large skilled nursing industry that is very happy to profit from it all…
A bit unrelated but I’m so tired of fake intellectual stuff like this. Once you recognize it you see it everywhere. A bunch of “intellectuals” who don’t really do anything more than collect a bunch of stories like this — not because they are intellectually interesting or because they are a part of some larger scholarly effort but simply because they are silly/contrarian. If the point of the work can be summed up in a meme headline then it’s just noise. That’s 99% of what passes through here and the rest of the internet.
What it means to be a scholar is to engage in those things that are not supported at all by hardware acceleration in the brain but yield fruit at the end of the day. This is what separates scholars from everyone else, the scholars are so excited by the idea and the vision at the end of that boring tunnel that they can withstand the tedium. But the rest of us like to giggle at 9 year olds ddosing a school. Wow, how did they even do that? Amazing!
It’s so embarrassing to see someone who’s whole model of the world is basically built out surprising/clickbait headlines cobbled together… which is almost invariably a kind of teenage angst dystopian version of the world.
What is the point of karma farming?
I experienced this. The death was so traumatizing, because I was there, that it sent a zap through my body and I never slept the same after that, three years ago. And it turned into schizoaffective disorder. But I never fully grieved or felt sad.
Over the years I have become very attuned to the signs of autism. A lot of people who have autism don’t show any obvious signs and are undiagnosed. There are absolute tons of women who have autism and nobody realizes it. The two most common symptoms are being “bossy” or having a hard time keeping their observations to themselves and also being overly sexually promiscuous. These women have sons who are on the spectrum almost without variation. And these females are all very well adjusted and often have very good careers. It’s kind of maddening when you see these women giving birth to tons and tons of men who are super disadvantaged and often end up really badly, much worse than their mothers. Once you learn how to spot it you see it absolutely everywhere. I think it’s unfair that boys are being fucked so hard and there’s no help or recognition for their situation.
So no, women who have diagnosed autism do poorly but as everyone knows, even the liberal media, the disease doesnt treat the sexes equally.
I think you are projecting anger. I always become frustrated when the truth is brushed aside because of petty political or moral reasons. The truth is the light in this dark world.
The quality of life of a female with Asperger’s is dramatically higher than that of a male. My whole family has it and it’s clear. There’s something about the female brain that is not impacted the same way. The liberal media loves to ignore this and they lean in super hard on “shielding” or whatever where they say the discrepancy is explained by the fact that females just deal with it better. And the rest of the gap is explained by sexism, of course. It’s a fucking lie and it’s bullshit.
I have severe schizoaffective disorder and the past three years of my life have been dedicated to learning more about psychiatric disorders. Most people have no idea just how rudderless we are. It’s the equivalent of people thinking rickets was a failure of moral fiber in the olden days. We are truly, truly living in medieval times.
Plus one to this. A Blu-ray is durable, maintenance free and most importantly extremely common. Anyone can use one and this will likely be true for a long time. There will be people around who can get data off Blu-ray’s for an exceedingly long time.
But printed images are the ultimate. They require no extraction whatsoever.
I recently spent a lot of time considering how to do my own storage and backups for a collection of mkv files I have. Your solution depends on how frequently you need to access the data, how frequently you need to modify the data and how frequently you need to add data to the archive.
For family photos, you might view them once every couple years, just to browse randomly. Every once in a while you might access the data with the intention of finding a specific photo. The data is of course never modified and only expanded once every five years or so.
So, low bandwidth, infrequent access and expansion and no modification. The winner by a mile is Blu-ray.
A hdd will de-magnetize over a very short period of time even if it’s stored in ideal condition. Less than a decade. You need to plug it in and let it refresh those tracks. If you keep it plugged in all the time then something else will die. Any way you slice it, there will be maintenance.
The data on a Blu-ray just sits there. It will outlast you.
Some Blu-ray Discs can have problems. This is because of improper materials and poor manufacturing. If the layers of plastic that sandwich the medium become delaminated or damaged in some way, this will lead to the oxidation of the data medium and loss of data. A properly manufactured disc like a Sony archival disc will never do that. And they make discs with data mediums that don’t oxidize so those ones can hypothetically last for thousands of years. Despite what people might say, a proper Blu-ray Disc is a great way to store data.
So here’s the deal. Get rid of duplicate pictures and pictures you don’t really care for. Compress as tightly as you can. Burn a copy of those files to a set of discs. Then another set of discs from another brand. And then another and continue however many times makes sense for your budget/ value of the data. Send each set to a different family member starting with the most remote. When it time to update the database, send out the latest discs.
I would buy a new gopro to solve weatherproofing, add some kind of heating element to the case in front of the lens to prevent frost/condensation, put a shield above it to keep the rain and snow off as well as the sun, just for good measure.
