If I hadn't grown up hearing those nicknames I would find them confusing as well. It's not natural for a non-native speaker to figure out Dunya, Dunechka, and Avdotya are the same person.
Similarly, Dmitri Prokofych Razumikhin is referred to as Razumikhin 95% of the time, then suddenly people are referring to Dimitry Prokofych and I've got to look up who that is.

Managers DO cross team boundaries though, their peers are other managers. I can't talk to the 100 people in my department every week, but my manager can talk to their 9 peers, who each talk to their 10 reports.

If a neighbor leaves their dog's poop in my yard I have a problem. If someone builds an industrial scale dog poop delivery mechanism that delivers tons of dog poop to my yard every day I have a different problem even though the underlying basics are the same.
There's a difference between introducing new things because they are a well thought out appropriate choice and completely ignoring the standards of the company because you want to do resume driven development. I believe the author is talking about the latter.
It's different because LLMs can generate code that immediately needs to be refactored at speeds that were unfeasible before. There was a practical limit on the amount of technical debt that could be created in a day before, now that limit is 10x or 100x higher. It can be generated far faster than it can be fixed.
